- To the Christian this church is our dock and the world is the sea and the same conditions apply.
- The dock is a place of
- This passage speaks of the lack of praise to God for His goodness! (Verses 8,15,21,31)
WHY? Why should we praise God for His goodness?
- Verse23- 24 He allows us to see his goodness
- Seamen truly get to see the works and wonders in the sea, and the entire world!
- They get to see first-hand the power and majesty of God (Ps.19:1-2)
- Moses got to see God’s goodness [Ex.33:13-19]
- We get to see God’s goodness through:
- Answered prayer
- Souls saved
- Lives changed We should praise God simply for what he allows us to see!!!
- Verse 25 He is in control of His goodness
- It is good that God is in charge! (there are no surprises in Heaven)
- There ain’t no such thing as “mother nature”!
- Mark 6:45-51 (they were constrained, behavior that is forced and unnatural), yet He was in control of all of it.
- Job, went through much, none of which God was unaware!
- Examples of The Lord’s control on the ships in our Port Ministry
- We should praise God simply because He is in Control!!!
- Verse 26 He is good in times of trouble
- Has your soul ever been “melted because of trouble?
- Seamen with terrible storms, and waves larger than the ship!
- Seamen took hostage by Somali pirates!
- You walk out the church doors and there is plenty of trouble, but sometimes there is trouble here (Example of Hannah having a seizure during church a few years back, we got to see and experience His control of the trouble!)
- It is very easy to know the goodness of God while here in church, but hard to experience trouble out there in the world. Romans 8:28 is hard to cling to when the storm is raging!
- God is good all the time!
- Bad times make us appreciate the good times
- There are more good times than bad, focus on the Good! Praise the Lord for His goodness!
- Has your soul ever been “melted because of trouble?
- Verse 27-28 He is longsuffering with His goodness
- They cry out to the Lord when they are at their wits end!
- God is so longsuffering with us and our wits!
- We try everything, and then cry out to God! Google then God!
- What if we switch the order “then are they glad” with “then they cry unto God”
- Bankers, Mechanics, Doctors, etc. always say “we only talk when you are in trouble”
- We ought to praise the Lord for His goodness in putting up with us.
- Verse 29-30 He is always good to save us
- God is good to always bring us to our desired haven; you are here now aren’t you? You have survived another tour in the world and have landed here back in port.
- God is good in that he always has a stretched out arm, to save us.
- God is not willing that any should perish!
- Praise the Lord for his goodness!
