Wow, to have your story told in the Bible! Wow, to have your name mentioned! But how many folks were mentioned, and served great purposes, but are name less!

  • The thief on the cross
  • The prodigal son
  • The woman at the well
  • Abraham’s un-named servant sent to seek a wife for Isaac, Rebekah.

All three passages this man is never named, yet his story is told in three of the gospels. In this passage the Lord sends two of his disciples to accomplish a task. A key component to this plan is “such a man”. The Lord’s will gets accomplished and not hindered because of this man. Let us look at some characteristics of this man.

We have the opportunity to be one of those unnamed servants of God!

[Luke 22:7-13] “there shall a man meet you” – verse 10

This man was looking for the opportunity to serve God

 

  1. You must be usable
    1. A vessel sanctified and meet for the masters use [2Tim.2:20-21]
    2. We often pray for the Lord to use us, when we should pray for us to be usable.
    3. It is your responsibility to be usable

 

  1. You must be available
    1. The disciples were sent to find him, and he was where he was supposed to be. He was easily found!
    2. You are available when you are in the will of God [Rom.12:1-2]

[Luke 22:10] “…bearing a pitcher of water”

This man was willing to stand out in a crowd, to serve God

 You will stand out if you have: No Fear of Man.

    1. Men didn’t normally haul the water back then; it was woman’s work.
    2. The fear of man bringeth a snare, it hinders you
    3. Fearful First for me:
      1. Pass out a tract
      2. Put bumper sticker on my car
  • Have a scripture sign in my yard
  1. Public Ministry
    1. Alamo – street preaching
    2. Buc days parade
    3. Beach to Bay
  2. Knock on a door!

 

  1. You will stand out if you have: No Fear of Work. He had no issues with “bearing a pitcher”.
    1. God uses men that work
      1. Moses
      2. Elisha
  • Gideon
  1. Paul
  1. Whenever we call a work day at church, those that show up, stand out.
  2. Have you ever stood out?
    1. Do your neighbors, coworkers, classmates, family, know that you are a Christian?

[Mark 14:15] “and he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared”

This man had prepared to serve God

  1. You will be prepared if you Do what you should do now
    1. He spent a lot of time, money and effort to have this room furnished and prepared.
    2. What has the Lord got you doing right now?
    3. [Eph.4:1] Walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called
    4. God has you in a position at this moment to be preparing for some future use!
    5. [Ecc.9:10] Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

 

  1. You will be prepared if you Don’t worry about the future
    1. He never had any idea that the Lord would need to use this room in the future.
    2. He just did what he was supposed to do each day
    3. [Matthew 6:34] Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
    4. Examples in our church:
      1. Shannon – learning French etc./ Went to Canada to start a Christian school
      2. Tony – Studied to be an engineer/ Now able to tutor teens
  • Pastor – Banker / continues to bless folks all over the globe with financial advice
  1. Bobby – owned a worldly Audio shop/ now leads our music department
  2. Kim, Luanne and others/ baking goodies that sent teens to camp

[Acts 1:12-14] “they went up into an upper room

This man continued serving God     I really believe he was there!

  1. He was Usable
  2. He was Available
  3. He had no Fear of Man
  4. He had no fear of Work
  5. He did what he should have been doing everyday
  6. He did not worry about the future
