What do you see in the Rainbow?

(Genesis 9:8-17)

In this passage God makes a covenant with Noah and promises never to destroy the earth with a flood again. As a token of this covenant God gives the rainbow. The rainbow has been taken and used not in the way that God intended for it today but when we as saved people look at the rainbow we can still see some wonderful things about God.

Before we began looking at what we can see in the rainbow we must look at the rainbow as a type of Salvation.

To see a rainbow science tells us that we need water and the sun. This is interesting because both of these are a type of Jesus Christ. Jesus as the sun (Malachi 4:2). Jesus as water (John 4:14; 7:37-38).

Note that in 1 Peter 3:21 Noah is said to be saved by water, but Noah never got wet. The water of the flood was the judgment of God upon the wickedness of man. Jesus was judged in our place and it is by him that we are saved from the judgment of God (2 Corinthians 5:21 ; Acts 17:31).

Also to see a rainbow white light is parted by the water which acts as a prism. Then you can see the 7 colors in their separate wavelengths. This is a type of Jesus Christ as well. We cannot see God but when he came to this earth he came through a water birth which acts as a prism and we can see Jesus who was God manifest in the flesh (1 Timothy 3:16). This is why there are seven colors in a rainbow (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, and Violet). Seven is God’s number of completion or perfection. When man steals the rainbow to use for other things he drops one of the colors so there is only six which is his number.

Things for us to see in the Rainbow:

1)  We have made it through the Judgment of God (Romans 5:9).

• Just as Noah we have made it through.

2)  It is God that brings the storms after salvation in our lives (Genesis 9:14).

• The darker the clouds the brighter the rainbow.

3)  Jesus was there the whole time (Hebrews 13:5-6)

• Clouds may come but the Sun is always in the same place.

4)  God is looking at the same place you are (Genesis 9:16).

• God sees you in every storm (1 Peter 3:12)

5)  Above the clouds you can see the whole thing (Revelations 4:3)

• The rainbow is actually a circle.
