Walk in Victory Over Sin, Rom 6:12-14

In Rom 6:12-14 Paul said, “Sin shall not have dominion over you”.  He admonished us to “let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body”. How can you walk in victory over sin?

Die to Self – Rom 6:6. In Gal 2:20 we are crucified with Christ so the he can live his life in us.  In 1 Cor 15:31, Paul said, “I die daily”. Each day we must die to ourselves so that Christ can live in us.

Yield to God – Rom 6:13-16.  This yielding is the transforming work of the Holy Spirit. At every moment of every day, you are faced with choices to either yield to God or yield to sin. You must yield to God every time.

Fear the Lord – Prov 3:7. Fear the Lord and depart from evil.  God told Moses to kill a man in the Old Testament for merely picking up sticks on the sabbath.  God’s attitude about sin has not changed. He will hove mercy on whom he will have mercy. God has been so good to us that we forget the extent to which he hates sin. We must fear him despite his goodness to us.

Wash in the Bible – Jn 15:3, Eph 5:26. Each time you read the Bible, you wash in the words of God. We need to wash every day.

Plead the blood – Heb 9:14. The blood of Christ cleanses us from sin and purges our conscience. When a temptation comes or your imagination allures you, ask God to obliterate it in the blood of Jesus.

With these five things you can walk in victory over sin. In the next message, we will give you some other practical things you can do to walk in victory over sin. For part two of this message listen to More Victory Over Sin.
