In this passage we find the remarkable and glorious aspects of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He is the King of the kingdom of God – 13 – we entered the kingdom the moment we trusted Christ and were born again Jn 3:3-5 – we were translated into a new kingdom with a new King Jn 5:24 never to return to the power and darkness of the old kingdom – some folks get saved but fail to come under the rule of their new king – you should do this from the moment of your salvation – 1 Tim 6:15
Redeemer of the saints – 14 – the redemption was through his blood Eph 1:7; it was God’s blood that redeemed us Acts 20:28
Image of the invisible God – 15 – Heb 1:3; 2 Cor 4:4 – Jews were not to worship images – but they worshipped false gods and their images just like religious people do today – since Jesus was the firstborn of every creature, some people believe that he was a created god – answer: he is the firstborn of every creature that is born of God – Adam wasn’t born he was created [as were all the other creatures] – all of his offspring are born of man [and all the creatures are born of the creatures that were made] – Jesus is the firstborn of God and when he was born we finally saw the image of God in the body that he had prepared for Jesus [he that hath seen me hath seen the Father] – we are also born of God – Jn 1:12-13, 2 Cor 5:17
Creator of heaven and earth – 16 – Jn 1:1-3; Heb 1:2; Eph 3:9 – all things were created for him and therefore for his pleasure Rev 4:11
Life of the universe – 17 – Acts 17:28; Job 12:10 – without him there is no life
Head of the church – 18 – Eph 1:22-23 he has the preeminence in everything
The fullness of the Godhead – 19 – 2:9 – he is the Holy Spirit incarnate Lk 1:35 and he is the same as the Father Jn 12:45, 14:9 – therefore the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are one 1 Jn 5:7
Reconciler of all things – 20 – 2 Cor 5:18 he has reconciled us and in Rom 8:19-23 he reconciled the creatures – his reconciliation will result in peace Is 11.
Hope this helps,
