The Name of the Lord Cometh Is 30 27-33 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
When the Lord comes back to the earth his coming will be manifested by the things that are listed in these verses. Jesus’ coming will be manifested by his:
Distinguished Names – Is 30:27 “the name of the Lord cometh from afar” – Rev 19:11, 13, 16 – Jesus is the only person in the universe who goes by the names Faithful, True, The Word of God and KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. In addition, he has a name that no one knows but him [the tetragrammaton] When you see and hear those names attributed to him, you will know that Jesus, rather than some antichrist, is here!!
Burning Anger – Is 30:27 – “burning with his anger” and “tongue as a devouring fire” – God, through the Lord Jesus Christ, has extended an incredible degree of mercy to this world and the world has only grown further from him. By the time Jesus returns, his longsuffering will have been exhausted and he will return with such wrath and fury that it will be kindled into “the flame of a devouring fire,” [v.30]. See 2 Thes 1:7-9, Mal 4:1.
Sifting of Nations – Is 30:28 “to sift the nations with the sieve of vanity” – we know from Matt 25:31-46, that when Jesus is sitting on the throne of his glory here in the earth, he will judge the nations before his throne. But before this judgment he will execute his fierce wrath upon them as soon as he returns, sifting those given to vanity, Jer 25:15-33.
Strong Delusion – Is 30:28 – “a bridle in the jaws of the people causing them to err” – this is a picture of the bridle used by a cowboy to control his horse – because the people have rejected the Lord and the truth, the Lord simply sends them delusion causing them to believe a lie which leads them right into their damnation [2 Thes 2:10-12]. They are hopeless to resist his turning of them into destruction.
Glad Song – Is 30:29 – “ye shall have a song… and gladness of heart” – the remnant of Israel will rejoice at the coming of Jesus and will sing this song in the same way that they sang with Moses at the drowning of Pharaoh and his chariots in the Red Sea [Ex 15:1-21]. A thorough examination of the words of that song reveals many references to the Second Advent.
Glorious Voice – Is 30:30-31 – “the Lord shall cause his glorious voice to be heard” and “through the voice of the Lord shall the Assyrian be beaten down” – see Ps 29, Jer 25:30 and Is 66:6 in their contexts. These passages are Second Advent passages indicating that the Lord’s voice will be powerfully heard upon his return, like the roaring of the Lion of the tribe of Judah.
Powerful Weapons – Is 30:30 – “his arm… the flame of a devouring fire… tempest… hailstones” – see these cross-references for his arm [Is 52:4], the devouring fire [Ex 24:17; Deut 4:24], the tempest [Is 29:6; Ps 11:6], and the hailstones [Jos 10:11; Ezek 38:18-23]. By these he will destroy and scatter the nations.
Beating of the Assyrian – Is 30:31-32 – “…shall the Assyrian be beaten down” – the Assyrian here is the devil incarnate. The man in whom he will be incarnate will be destroyed by the voice of the Lord [2 Thes 2:8] and the devil will be chained in the bottomless pit for 1,000 years [Rev 20]. Check these cross-references on the Assyrian in Is 52:4; 10:5-13; 14:4, 25; 31:8. He was down in Egypt when the Jews were in bondage and he will be around in the Tribulation attempting to destroy Israel and ultimately fighting unsuccessfully even against the Lord [Dan 8:23-25].
Igniting of Tophet – Is 30:33 – “Tophet is ordained of old… doth kindle it” – Tophet is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, just outside of Jerusalem [southwest]. The children of Israel were burning their sons and daughters in the fire here in their idolatry, Jer 7:31-32; 19:4-15. Therefore, the Lord fills this valley with the dead bodies of those destroyed at his second coming and then ignites their bodies when there is no more room for burying them. When people come to worship the Lord in the millennium, they pass by Tophet and see those burning in the fire [Is 66:23-24].
