A Godless Society, 2 Tim 3:5

A Godless Society 2 Tim 3:5 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

In a godless society like the one in which we are living now, men still live like they are not godless; they have a form of godliness but they deny the power thereof, which is God himself.  They are like Cain, who made a sacrifice, but who was a wicked man and was wroth when God would not accept his sacrifice.  He ended up killing his brother, Abel, out of envy.

Ultimately, the trouble is that people in this godless society want what we have as Christians, but they want it without God.  In this godless society, they want:

Peace – Is 48:22.  We have peace with God, Rom 5:1, Phil 4:6-7, Jn 14:27.  But without God, without turning from wickedness, they will never have peace.  Peace comes to the earth when the Prince of peace arrives, Is 9:6-7.

Love – 1 Jn 4:7-11.  We have the love of God.  But without God, they will never have true love.  They’ll talk about it and they may have as much as a human can have, but they will never have as much love as they want, Matt 24:12.

Success – Jos 1:8.  They want success and prosperity on their own terms.  But the Bible says that success and prosperity come from meditating upon, speaking about and doing all the words of God.  Without these things, they are hopeless to have anything more than the success measured by their worldly standards which is always insufficient.  The rich young ruler of Lk 18 knew with all of his wealth and adherence to the law that he still lacked something.  And if you could gain the whole world and lose your own soul, what profit is that?

Shared Wealth – Acts 2:42-47.  The Biblical conditions of sharing wealth are salvation, a steadfast adherence to the apostles’ doctrine, fellowship with believers, prayer, fear of God, continuing daily with one accord in the temple and praising God.  They will never go for that because they hate God and they hate his children.

Health – Phil 3:20-21.  For a Christian, his health is secondary to the grace of God in his life, 2 Cor 12:7-10, 2 Cor 11:25-27.  The reason is that he knows he is going to get a glorified body in eternity.  So, it’s not that he neglects to take care of his health, because he should.  But he doesn’t worship his body like those in this godless society do.  They will never have what we have without Jesus.

Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.  These so-called “inalienable rights” are not guaranteed to men here.  Just think how these are denied every single day.  These three things are available only from the divine Trinity.  Life comes from Jesus, Jn 10:10.  Liberty comes from the Holy Spirit, 2 Cor 3:12.  Happiness comes from God, Ps 144:15.

Conclusion: So, this godless society will have to be content without these things until they are willing to come to Christ.
