Proverbs 31:10-11

The virtuous woman is described in relation to her husband, her work, her home, her person, and to God.  She is a good wife, a good neighbor, a good mother, and a good woman.  Proverbs 31 is the measuring stick for a Biblical woman.  Verses 28-29 are the testimony of those in her home and they are not talking about someone who just did house work.

Value – her price is far above rubies (31:10)

You may think of value as a contribution that is greater than the withdrawal.  Furthermore, her value is seen in that she is rare.  The value of a virtuous wife can’t be quantified in money because the things she brings to the table are not for sale.

Her value is in her Character

• Character is unaffected by offenses
  • Our culture teaches people how to be offended.  Ladies are taught how to be offended at men, how to find or invent inequality, how to look for unfairness.
  • Offenses are what you use to justify your misbehavior.
  • Great peace have they which love thy law and nothing shall offend them. (Psalms 119:165)
• Character does right without consulting the circumstances
• Character is being the right person instead of looking for the right person
• Character is practiced in silence (verse 26 is her only speaking verse)

Her value is in her Purpose

• She is a Help (Genesis 2:18).  Reliable, support, stronger than you when she needs to be.
• Your differences strengthen your marriage, not weaken it.  Ecclesiastes 4:9-10.
• She is a keeper at home (Titus 2:5).  Three times her household shows up and defines her work as a keeper at home.
  • verse 15 responsible for the diet of the household,
  • verse 21 responsible for the clothing
  • verse 27 responsible for the ways of her household. Time management, schedules, comings and going of the home.

Trustworthy – heart of her husband doth safely trust in her (31:11)

God’s testimony about her is that she can be trusted.  Notice her husband can safely trust in her.

• Financially responsible (no need of spoil). Verse 16 She is shrewd, wise, and economical.  The opposite of the typical American woman who is extravagant and gullible when it comes to buying things.
• One of the biggest financial lies women are told today is that there is no value in being a home maker.  Stay at home equals do nothing, no ambition, at least by the world’s standards.
