This study is for the benefit of those who are saved and believe in eternal security but don’t know well enough from the Bible why they believe it or how to teach someone else why they should believe it.  This study is also for the benefit of those who don’t believe in eternal security.  It will give you some information to consider.  However, you must resist the temptation to say, “Yeah, but…” to every verse we are studying today.  When you try to run from the verses we are studying to show us verses that seem to contradict this doctrine, then you aren’t paying attention to this study.  You aren’t listening; you are thinking about what you already believe.

We begin this study on eternal security with a well known verse:

Jn 3:16 says that God gave us his only begotten Son – in other words, his gift is not eternal life, his gift is Jesus – and when you receive Jesus you have everlasting life – you become the “current possessor” of eternal life.  That’s because…

I Jn 5:11-13 eternal life is in his Son – so when you receive Jesus Christ [Jn 1:12-13] you also receive his eternal life – therefore, he that hath the Son hath life – and God said that he wrote these things to us that believe on the name of the Son of God, that we may KNOW that we HAVE eternal life.

Jn 5:24 – As the current possessor of eternal life you have already passed from death unto life – in other words, you will die a physical death but the eternal life inside of you will not be interrupted – you will just keep on living [2 Cor 5:8] – you leave your body and enter immediately into the presence of the Lord – this is true because of Rom 6:3-6 – the Holy Spirit has already baptized you into the death of Jesus Christ and you are now walking the newness of life.

Jn 10:27-30 – in order to secure you completely, the Lord has placed you into his hand and into the Father’s hand, as well – you are double wrapped.

Eph 1:13, 4:30 – and you are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise till the redemption of the purchased possession [when you get your glorified body] – the Spirit is your earnest [an earnest is a thing intended as a promise of what is to come – in middle English it is the installment paid to confirm a contract].

Heb 13:5 – therefore, the Lord will never leave thee nor forsake thee.

Jn 6:37 – and he will in no wise cast you out.

Rom 8:35-39 – and, therefore, there is nothing in the universe that can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus.

That is Eternal Security.
