Preservation Ps. 12:6-7 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO 

Preservation of scripture is simply a fulfillment of the promise that God made in Ps 12:6-7.  Those verses say, “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.  Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.”

This is a promise not just to preserve his word but to preserve his WORDS.  And this is a very important promise because we are told by the Lord Jesus Christ himself, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”  How are you going to do that if you don’t have his words today?  Jesus went on further to say, “If a man love me, he will keep my words.”  How can he do that if he doesn’t have his words?

In Ps 119:11 says “Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee.” That’s impossible if you don’t have God’s words to hide in your heart.  James tells us to “receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.”  And Peter tells us that we are “born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever.”  That cannot be possible if we do not have the words of God.

You may not realize this but all of the originals are gone.  Everything that Moses wrote, that Isaiah wrote, that David wrote, that Solomon wrote, that Paul wrote, that Matthew wrote, and on and on is gone.  They have either decayed into obliteration or have been destroyed into non existence.  So are we to presume that God “that cannot lie” lied when he said, “thou shalt preserve them?”  No.  We are to believe that he fulfilled what he said.

Matt 24:35 says, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”  1 Pet 1:25 says, “But the word of the Lord endureth for ever.”  Well then, we should believe what the Bible says and find out where God preserved his words.  They have to be in writing somewhere around here.  He promised and God is not in the habit of breaking his promises.

So, where are they?  They are in the Authorized King James Bible.  You ask, “How do you know?”  There are several ways.

The words of the Authorized King James Bible are:

True – Ps 119:160 – in all of the scholars’ attempts to destroy and discredit this book and its authors and the King whose name it bears, they have yet to find one error provable beyond reasonable doubt in all of its pages.  That is remarkable in itself.  I’ve read it from cover to cover many, many times and I haven’t found one yet.  There are numerous imagined and alleged contradictions but these are just in there to trip up the critics. [Jn 17:17]

Pure – Prov 30:5 – These words are not mixed with extraneous words.  They are simple, plain, right, and “there is nothing forward or perverse in them,” [Prov 8:8-9].  They are unfathomable to the most learned genius who humbly seeks God’s wisdom by them and they are clear and understandable to the most unlearned reader who desires to know what God said [Lk 10:21].

Powerful – Heb 4:12 – No other book on this earth can hold a candle to the discernment and power of this book.  Like the sharp two-edged sword it is professed to be it can cut right to the heart and expose the deepest sin and it can heal, like a surgeon’s scalpel, the vilest ailment [Ecc 8:4; Eph 6:17; Prov 12:18].

Incorruptible – 1 Pet 1:23 – these words have stood the test of time and have been used by the Holy Spirit magnificently for over four centuries.  There is nothing corrupt in its pages unlike the words of men recorded in the modern translations [2 Cor 2:17].

Effectual – 1 Thes 2:13 – when you have the words of God, they work in you when you believe them transforming your mind and renewing your mind through the power of the Holy Ghost.  They elevate you to God’s righteousness and standards.  The words of men cause degeneration as they bring God down to man’s level rather than to bring men up to God’s level.

There are other descriptions that can be given of this Book.  However, if it were not the preserved words of God it could be none of these things because all of these describe God’s infallible words.  In other words, if the Authorized King James Bible does what only God’s words can do then it must be God’s words!!

Conclusion: If God is powerful enough to make sure that the men who wrote the original words in Hebrew, Syriac and Greek wrote exactly what he wanted them to write, then be sure he is powerful enough to preserve those words in English by guiding the translators of the Authorized Version to write in English what he originally said the way he wanted them to write it.  That’s preservation!!
