In Gen 1:4 you begin to see immediately that God is a divider.  Look at Gen 1:6, 14, 18, as well.

I have heard many people talking about getting everybody “together.”  One fellow tells me from time to time that we could get so much more done for the Lord if we could just get “all the churches together.”  You probably remember the lyrics to the song “Get Together” by the Youngbloods.  The chorus is “Come on people now, Smile on your brother, Everybody get together, Try to love one another, Right now.”  

But getting everything and everybody together is contrary to God’s nature.  God is a divider.  

In Gen 1:4 God divided the light from the darkness.  This world is in darkness.  The god of this world [2 Cor 4:3-4] is the ruler of the darkness of this world [Eph 6:12].  When you and I were saved we were called “out of darkness into his marvelous light,” [1 Pet 2:9].  As children of light we are to have “no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness,” [Eph 5:8-11].  Yet you see some of God’s children going back to the darkness of this world.  Don’t do that.  God has commanded you to separate yourself from the things of the world [2 Cor 6:14-18]. Have you come out of the darkness or have you gone back into it?

In Gen 1:14, 18 God divided the day from the night (by the sun and the moon).  You and I are children of the day; we are not children of the night [1 Thes 5:5-6].  Therefore, we are not to be asleep like the rest of the world.  Rather, we are to watch and be sober.  Unlike the world, we are to know what’s really going on.  We are to know and believe what God said, rather than what men profess.  Are you of the day or of the night?  You certainly cannot be both.

In Gen 10:32 God divided the nations in the earth.  God divided the nations so that they could find the Lord [Acts 17:26-27].  Whether you agree or disagree with the current political trends, Christians are not to be globalists.  That’s what the folks at the tower of Babel were trying to accomplish.  They had one language and they were building a tower that could reach heaven on man’s efforts without God.  So, God thwarted their plans and separated the people by giving them different languages.  In Deut 32:8 God divided to the nations their inheritance and set the bounds of the people.  Are you a globalist?  If so, you are contrary to God.

In Ex 26:33 God divided the holy place from the most holy and in Lev 11 the unclean meats were divided from the clean.  Is there any distinction in your life between what is holy and what is unholy?  The modern church makes no distinction; but God does.  Is 59:2 says that your iniquities separate between you and God.  In 1 Tim 2:8, we are to lift up holy hands in prayer.  How about you?  Is there anything in life from which you have separated yourself?

In Matt 25:32 God divides the sheep from the goats.  The sheep inherit the kingdom prepared for them by the Lord [Matt 25:34]. The goats are cast into everlasting fire [Matt 25:41].  Sometimes people are reluctant to get saved because they know that homes become divided over Jesus Christ [Lk 12:51-53].  He came to bring a sword.  In Lk 6:22 you get separated from the company of men because of Jesus.  Are you going to accept Jesus and accept the division and separation that come from knowing him?  Or are you going go into everlasting fire with the devil and his angels.  For me the choice was very simple.  I accepted Jesus.
