The Most Neglected Book on Earth II, Heb 2:1-4

There is a frightful trend in this old world.  That trend concerns the most neglected book on earth.  The Bible is that book and in Heb 2:1-4 you can see the question that Paul raises about it, “How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation?”  You cannot.

The more I read the Bible the more that I realize how practical the Bible is.  That’s why the Lord said, “Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”  Yet, though it is practical, it is very demanding.  And so men that need to follow it don’t and they justify their reasons with unacceptable excuses.

I find that the Bible is neglected in families.  It is neglected because:

The Bible demands husbands to love their wives as Christ loves the church – Eph 5:25-29 – men these days marry for what they can get, not what they can give.

The Bible demands wives to be in subjection to their own husbands – 1 Pet 3:1-6; Eph 5:22-24, Gen 3:16 – women these days want equality with men rather than submission.

The Bible demands children to honor and obey their parents – Eph 6:1-3; Lk 2:51 – Isaiah said, “As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them,” and Agur said, “There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.”

The Bible demands parents to be responsible for their children’s education – Deut 6:6-7, Prov 4:1-4 – parents are too busy with their own lives and the children are too busy with extracurricular activities.

The Bible demands fathers to bring up children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord – Eph 6:4; Prov 13:24 – men are afraid to spank them when they are young and cannot or will not reason with them when they are older.

The Bible demands children to be responsible for their own actions – Ezek 18:4, 20; Rom 14:12 – children are being taught to blame their sins on genetics and parental influences so that they are not ultimately responsible for what they do.

Conclusion: The Bible says, “Be not unequally yoked together with unbelievers,” “a prudent wife is from the Lord,” “children are an heritage of the Lord,” “except the Lord build the house they labor in vain that build it,” etc.  These are principles in the Bible and notice that the Lord is central and foremost in every one of them.  Therein lies the basis for a good family.  And when men and women leave these principles out, they leave the Lord out.  And families without the Lord are severely hampered and cannot escape the judgment of the Lord against them in this life and/or in the next.  Don’t neglect what the Lord said; read it and follow it.
