Thou Art Mine Is 43:1-7 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
Is 43:1-7 reveals the very unique relationship that God has with Israel. No other nation can claim the promises that God has made to Israel and no other nation benefits from prophecy like Israel does. He says to Israel, Thou art mine.
God is Israel’s:
Creator – Is 43:1 – He is the one that gave them their name [Gen 32:28] – they went down to Egypt with 70 souls and came out a great nation [Deut 4:6-8] – God did this for his glory [v.7] and no one is going to take that glory away from him.
Redeemer – Is 43:1 – he redeemed them out of Egypt [Ex 6:6, 15:13; Deut 7:8] – he has never done this for any other nation.
Protector – Is 43:2 – he protects them in water and in fire – the burning bush is a great testimony that they will never be consumed [Ex 3:2-3; Ps 66:12] – the crossed the Red Sea [Ex 14:22] and the Jordan River on dry ground – and they will be protected in the flood of Rev 12:15 – Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were protected in the fire [Dan 3:19-27].
Saviour – Is 43:3 – Is 49:26; Is 60:16 – they haven’t sucked the milk of the Gentiles yet but they will.
Lover – Is 43:4 – Num 23:8-10, 19-24 – in spite of all the trouble that they caused the Lord in the wilderness he loved them and will not be able to see iniquity in them under the new covenant [Heb 8:8-13].
Restorer – Is 43:5-6 – he gathers them from the north, east, south and west – Deut 30:2-5 happens because of the new covenant
In this passage there are some great spiritual applications for Christians, as well.
We have no need to fear [Is 43:1; 2 Tim 1:7]; we have a redeemer [Is 43:1; Col 1:14]; the Lord knows us by name [Is 43:1; Jn 10:3]; we are the Lord’s [Is 43:1; Jn 17:9-10]; the Lord protects us in trials [Is 43:2; 1 Pet 4:12-13, 1:7, 1 Cor 3:11-15]; He is our Saviour [Is 43:3; 1 Tim 1:15]; we are precious to Him [Is 43:4; 1 Pet 2:9]; He loves us [Is 43:4; Jn 14:21-23; 2 Cor 9:7]; He has friends who will help us [Is 43:4; Ecc 4:9-12; 2 Tim 4:16]; He is with us [Is 43:5; Heb 13:5; 2 Tim 4:17]; His children are worldwide [Is 43:5-6; Acts 1:8; Rev 5:9]; He’ll gather us together soon [Is 43:6; 1 Thes 4:16-18]; and we are for his glory [Is 43:7; 1 Cor 10:31].
