Strength in Weakness 1 Cor. 1:25 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

In this society where physical strength is worshipped, where mental strength is handsomely compensated, where, to some degree, moral strength is still admired, where financial strength is craved and praised, and where the apparent confidence of strength is flaunted, you might easily miss the greatest source of strength in the entire universe: the strength of God.  According to 1 Cor 1:25, in his weakness he is stronger than men.  We saw this at Calvary [2 Cor 13:4; Is 50:6-9; Col 2:13-15].

We must be weak for the strength of God to take over.  And then when his strength kicks in there is nothing and no one who is any stronger than he is.  So how do you avail yourself of this supernatural strength of God?  You obtain his strength in weakness.

We see his strength in the weakness of our flesh – 2 Cor 12:9 – infirmities are good for you.  The greatest example of his power will be our resurrection from death [1 Cor 15:43] as it was with Christ’s resurrection.  The objective is to die daily [1 Cor 15:31] that the resurrection power of Christ may rest upon us [2 Cor 13:4; Phil 3:10].

We see his strength in the weakness of our wisdom – 1 Cor 2:1-4 – we all want to be so smart.  Christ alone is our wisdom and until we quit leaning on our own understanding, training, education, opinions, etc we aren’t going to see much of the strength of his wisdom.  In his foolishness he is wiser than men [1 Cor 1:25].

We see his strength in the weakness of our pride – Eph 6:10-18 – we should not be self reliant.  We should be humble in prayer.  We should not do things to attract attention to ourselves.

We see his strength in the weakness of our reputation – Heb 11:34 – see verse 32.  Jephthae was hated by his brothers.  David was hated by Saul.  Samuel was rejected by Israel [they wanted a king].  We spend so much time guarding our reputations that we crowd God out of his glory.

We see his strength in the weakness of our numbers – Heb 11:32 – Gideon was substantially outnumbered; Barak was outnumbered.  See Zech 4:6, 10.  Asa knew this [2 Chr 14:11].  You don’t need more money, more manpower and so forth; you need more God.  Num 23:23 Israel will be reduced to a mere remnant before men will marvel at what God hath wrought.  Israel will become the ruling nation of the world.

Conclusion: You’ll see his strength in the weakness of the law [Heb 7:18-19].  Keeping the law won’t save you.  When you see the weakness of the law, then you must receive the strength of eternal salvation in the finished work of Jesus at Calvary [Gal 3:24].  Jesus Christ will save you and give you life for eternity!!
