How We Escape Egypt 2 Cor 6:17-18 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
Egypt is a type of the world in the Bible and so we can look at the Exodus and learn a great deal about our relationship to the world. We are in the world but we are not of the world. The Lord does not want us to be influenced by the world. So, the Lord has done several things to separate us from the world. When we get saved the Lord’s intention is for us to separate from and eventually get out of the world. Here’s what the Lord has done and here is how we escape Egypt:
As Moses came to Egypt to save Israel, so Jesus came to the world to save us – Ex 3:10, “Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt. Matt 2:13-15, “And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.”
As the Lord redeemed Israel from Egypt, so Jesus redeemed us by his blood – 2 Sam 7:23, “And what one nation in the earth is like thy people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem for a people to himself, and to make him a name, and to do for you great things and terrible, for thy land, before thy people, which thou redeemedst to thee from Egypt, from the nations and their gods?” Ex 12:12-13, “For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.” See Col 1:14.
As the Lord separated Israel from Egypt, so the Lord separates us from the world – 1 Ki 8:53. “For thou didst separate them from among all the people of the earth, to be thine inheritance, as thou spakest by the hand of Moses thy servant, when thou broughtest our fathers out of Egypt, O Lord GOD.” See 2 Cor 6:17-18. As the Lord wanted Israel to escape Egypt, he wants us to separate from the world.
As Moses carried the bones of Joseph out of Egypt, so the Lord raptures us out of the world – Josh 24:32, “And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.” See 1 Thes 4:13-18.
As Egypt was glad when Israel left, so the world will be glad when we are gone – Ps 105:38, “Egypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them”.
Conclusion: In spite of our separation, we are still here and our purpose in remaining is to take as many others in the world with us when we go [Jn 17:9-21]. We have been sent into the world [Jn 17:18] like Moses and Jesus were. We have a responsibility to Jesus that others should believe on him through our word [Jn 17:20]. The world, through our testimony, needs to believe that God sent Jesus to save them [Jn 17:21].
