In Isaiah 54, God takes Israel as his wife, which typifies the Lord Jesus taking the church as his wife. When God takes Israel as his wife:
Her seed will number as the stars of heaven – Is 54:1 – in fulfillment of Gen 15:5-6 and Ex 32:13 – the children of the Lord through receiving the Lord Jesus Christ number as the stars, as well.
She will expand her border – Is 54:2-3 – see Gen 15:18; Deut 1:7 – her border will expand to the Euphrates River – the church will expand all the way to heaven.
She will inherit the Gentiles – Is 54:3 – see Ezek 39:8-10; Zech 14:12-14 – likewise the church will be joint-heirs with Jesus and many saints will have authority over cities in the millennial reign of Jesus.
She will forget the shame of her youth – Is 54:4 – see Is 62:4-5 – and thank the Lord Jesus Christ that we can forget the shame of our youth because of his forgiveness and redemption through his shed blood.
Her Maker will be her husband – Is 54:5 – see Hos 2:14-23 – and likewise Jesus becomes the husband of the church.
She will receive the Lord’s everlasting kindness and mercy – Is 54:6-10 – 1 Ki 3:6 foreshadows this – likewise, we receive the Lord’s everlasting kindness and mercy in Jesus.
Her city will be rebuilt – Is 54:11-12 – see Ezek 40-42; Amos 9:11-15 – likewise our city will be built with beautiful stones [Rev 21:18-21].
Her children will be taught of the Lord – Is 54:13 – see Jer 31:33-34 – and we, too, are and will be taught of the Lord [Eph 2:6; Jn 14:26, 16:13].
Her children will be at peace – Is 54:13 – see Ps 128:5-6 – likewise, we are at peace with God when we receive Jesus [Rom 5:1].
She will be established in righteousness – Is 54:14 – see Jer 23:5-8; Zech 2:4-13 – likewise, we are established in righteousness [Rom 10:3-4; 2 Cor 5:21].
She will be far from oppression and terror – Is 54:14 – Zech 14:9-11, 8:1-15 – nations gathered against her will fall – Is 54:15 – Zeph 3:8 – even the nations that God has used to destroy others – Is 54:16 – Zech 14:1-3; Joel 3:9-19 – weapons formed against her will not prosper – Is 54:17 – Rev 20:7-9 – likewise we are eternally secure in Jesus Christ.
