Savior Christ Lord, Luke 2:11

The angel of the Lord announced to the shepherds that the birth of Jesus was the birth of a very special person, “a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.”  We are going to look at the significance of these three names.

A Savior– let’s look back to the prophecy of Zacharias, John the Baptist’s father, to see what he prophesied about Jesus.  Lk 1:68-75.  A national deliverance from their enemies, Rom 11:25-26 a Deliverer.  You see the continual wars against them even in our generation and going on still today.  He will end them all, Is 2:2-4, Ps 46:9.  He’ll save them from their enemies.

And also Lk 1:76-77 “salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins”.  Matt 1:21 Jesus “he shall save his people from their sins”.  1 Tim 2:3-6.  Rom 11:26b-27.  Jesus is the one by whom we are saved.  And he is, himself, God who saves us… Is 43:11, 45:15, 45:21.  By saving us from our sins, he also saves us from our greatest enemy, death.  In Christ shall all be made alive.

Christ – Jn 1:41, 4:25.  Christ means “anointed”.  Jesus is the Jewish Messiah. He is the fulfillment of all the prophecies concerning Israel’s redeemer and deliverer.  He’s the one through whom we obtain righteousness, Rom 10:3-4.  We must know this because there is coming a man who will profess to be Christ.  He is antichrist.  He is the wrong one.  The right one has already come and he will return to destroy the wrong one.

The Lord – Rom 10:9-10.  The confession of a man who truly believes.  1 Cor 12:3.  Even those who are lost will eventually confess that Jesus is Lord, Phil 2:9-11. This shows that Jesus is God ‘the Lord’.  He is the Lord of lords.  And shows that when you receive him, he becomes the authority in your life.  He guides you into his will, he changes you into his new creature, and he works in your life to form the new man in you.

Conclusion: your greatest rest comes from letting Jesus save you. Then yield to him and his righteousness in you. And then let him rule in your life.  You will love the life of salvation and victory as you serve the King of kings and Lord of Lords.
