Manly Leadership 1 Cor.11:1-3 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

Manliness is so downplayed in our society today that we need to preach on manly leadership today to counter the feminization that is taking place among men.  You need to be a man who can be used by the Lord to lead.

A Man Who Can Lead Himself

1 Cor 9:26-27 – in order to do this you must learn to accept responsibility. You must be diligent and you must keep your body and your spirit under control [Prov 25:28].  Here are some things to do:

  • Discipline yourself to read your Bible, pray, and serve faithfully in your church
  • Learn to obey and follow the leadership of your parents and good men
  • Control your passions and your lusts and stay away from sinful pleasures
  • Don’t waste your time with the internet and social networking
  • Learn skills, read books, hunt and fish, do chores, etc.
  • Diligently seek God’s will and pursue preparations necessary to fulfill it
  • Befriend good associates and men and stay away from fools

A Man Who Can Lead His Wife

1 Cor 11:3 and Gen 3:16 – according to the prophecy of Isaiah, when a society goes the way we have gone in this country women end up ruling over the men [Is 3:12]. You might as well not marry if you are not going to be the head of your wife. As one preacher said, “A man will rule his home or he’ll wreck it”.  Here are some things to do:

  • Regard women with respect and not as objects of self-gratification
  • Observe how good men lead their wives
  • Develop the character of a man that a woman would be willing to follow
  • Do not imitate Hollywood characters or entertainment and sports idols
  • Develop appropriate habits of etiquette and respect
  • Strengthen your obedience to Christ as your head
  • Learn and increase the spiritual qualities of husbands in your life

A Man Who Can Lead His Family

1 Tim 3:4, 12 – you can really see the degeneration of the home in this country. Like Isaiah said, “children are their oppressors” [Is 3:12]. Not all of the problems in the home result from the decline in manly leadership but some of the blame can be placed here.  Here are some things to do:

  • Respond well to chastening in your life so that you can administer it well to others
  • Develop habits in your life that will improve your children when they follow you
  • Learn to love children while maintaining your relationship as parent not friend
  • Don’t give in to the appetites of your children; nourish them and guide them
  • Teach your children what you want them to learn and train them to do right things
  • Lead family devotions in your home and have family conversations
  • Control the television, computers and cell phones

A Man Who Can Lead Other Men

1 Cor 11:1 – You need to concentrate on becoming the kind of man that other men would be willing to follow. Paul unashamedly insisted that the Corinthians follow him. He was confident that he would lead properly and not lead them astray. Here are some things to do:

  • Read excellent historical accounts of soldiers and military commanders
  • Read biographies of other notable leaders in various fields
  • Courageously take charge in certain situations commensurate with your maturity
  • Learn to be an excellent follower of good men
  • Live by Biblical principles and be obedient to the words of God
  • Discipline yourself to retire early and rise early each day
  • Don’t be a time waster, a busybody or a gossip

Conclusion: You need to develop a manly character and that manly character needs to manifest itself in your ability to lead – men and women do not want to follow wimps.
