An Open Bible Luke 24:32

In dealing with people about salvation, we need to get an open Bible in front of them.  They need to see for themselves in an open Bible exactly what the Bible says.

Lk 24:32 says, “Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?”  Jesus could have revealed himself to them by the prints of the nails but he chose to reveal himself by the scriptures.  He opened the scriptures [Lk 24:27, 45].  And so, when we are dealing with folks we should open the scriptures.

When we visit with people with an open Bible:

They hear from God – 1 Pet 4:11, “If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God” – an oracle is a divine revelation or a divine declaration from God – these oracles are clearly written in the scriptures [Acts 7:38; Rom 3:2] – the oracle was also the most holy place in the Temple [1 Ki 6:16] – so when you open the Bible you bring them to God and what God said.

They hear about Jesus – Acts 8:35, “Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus” – Philip led the Ethiopian eunuch to the Lord out of Isaiah 53 – souls don’t need to hear arguments about evolution and the economy and your take on the end times, they need to hear about Jesus – when they are born again and grounded in scripture, then they can learn about some of those other things.

They hear about eternal life – Jn 5:39, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me” – while we love the peace, joy, love, fellowship, security, and so forth in our relationship with the Lord, one of the greatest things about Jesus is eternal life [Jn 3:16, 1 Jn 5:11-13] – Jesus rose from the dead and proved that the eternal life he offers is real.

And if they believe the word then it works effectually in them – 1 Thes 2:13, “For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it nor as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe” – in other words, with an open Bible in front of a lost soul, the word of God can do things that your words and my words could never accomplish:

  • Jas 1:21 – through the word they are saved
  • 1 Pet 1:23 – through the word they are born again
  • 1 Pet 1:23, 25 – through the word they live forever

Conclusion: We need to pray for each other that God would give us each the opportunity to sit with an open Bible in front of lost souls so that they can hear from God, hear about Jesus, hear about eternal life and live forever when they are truly born again by the word of God.
