Delight Thyself Also in the Lord Ps. 37:4 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

Ps 37:4 says, “Delight thyself also in the Lord…”  We find among Christians that the ones who grow the strongest and who are the most spiritual are the ones who delight themselves in the Lord.  To delight in something or someone is to take great satisfaction or pleasure in it or him or her.  When you take great satisfaction and pleasure in the Lord, you delight in the Lord.  The trouble today is that Christians delight in everything but the Lord.  We should delight in:

The Lord’s Mercy – 1 Tim 1:16, 13.  Have you ever fully considered the Lord’s mercy on our behalf?   Or have you considered his mercy in your life before you believed, while you were still a child of the devil?  Furthermore, have you considered his mercy in your life since your salvation?  When we sin he is always ready to forgive.  His mercy is inexhaustible.

The Lord’s Grace – 1 Tim 1:14-15.  Imagine the abundance of the grace of God in your salvation.  And it is this same grace that saved us by which we live.  His grace is sufficient and it supplies the need for our every weakness.

The Lord’s Presence – Heb 13:5.  You and I can have continual fellowship with the Lord.  He is always there for us. The beauty of his fellowship is often tangible in Bible reading, prayer, preaching and teaching services, singing, and in conscious meditation upon him.

The Lord’s Goodness – Jer 31:14. The very nature of the Lord is that he is good.  There is nothing or no one that is better than he is.  You can trust his goodness because that is who he is.  A friend said to me, “I never knew the Lord was all I needed until the Lord was all that I had.”

The Lord’s Peace – Jn 14:27.  God’s peace passeth all understanding and is found in prayer that leaves all the care with the Lord [Phil 4:6-7] and it is found when our minds are stayed on him [Is 26:3].

The Lord’s Provisions – Phil 4:19.  Everything you need he will supply.  How could you not delight in Him when you are never without everything you need.  Men have learned to depend on their bank accounts and their credit cards.  They’ve forgotten that everything is the Lord’s. And when you delight in him rather than in your possessions you are richer than you could ever be if you had all the money in the world.  Take for instance Mk 8:36-37.  You and I have eternal life!!

The Lord’s Promises – Jn 10:27-29.  Eternal security is one of the greatest promises known to man.  And then there is Rom 8:28.  Of course, there is Phil 4:13.  And then there is Jn 14:13-14. 

Conclusion: you are missing out big time these days if you delight in pleasures and possessions rather than in the Lord.  Delight thyself also in the Lord and not only will you be more satisfied now, you will be satisfied in eternity, as well.
