God’s Words Jer. 36:1-32 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
We are going to study about God’s words in Jer 36. This is one of the simplest places in the Bible to see what God does with his words and what he expects us to do with them.
God Spoke His Words
God spoke his words to men (like Moses and the prophets) – Jer 36:2. He spoke to others like Adam and Eve and Job [Job 23:12], as well. The words that they heard came directly from the mouth of God.
Men Wrote His Words
God instructed men to write his words – Jer 36:2. They wrote what he said even if they had to dictate them to someone else to write them down [Jer 36:4]. Paul often dictated his letters. And sometimes they spoke his words without writing them down. Sometimes they spoke them and someone else wrote them down [Matt 27:9, Zech 11:13]. Those words that he wanted men to write, they wrote down. Now consider that if God instructed men to write his words and he promised to preserve those words, then you’d better know that his words are in writing around here somewhere. There’s no doubt in my mind that his words in English are written down in the King James Bible just like God wanted them written down.
Men Must Hear God’s Words
God intends for men to hear his words – Jer 36:3, 6, 8, 10. So men preach his written words. Listen to what the Lord says through them. Oddly much of what God said comes from the mouth of other witnesses [Jer 36:11-13] who repeat what they have heard even though they don’t like it.
Men Should Respond To God’s Words
God intends for men to respond affirmatively to his words – Jer 36:3, 7. The preaching of God’s words stirs things up [Jer 36:14-16]. And often men respond in the wrong way [Jer 36:21-24]. When they do God “gets” them [Jer 36:27-31]. Even though men respond negatively to God’s words and try to keep them from being published, God preserves his words no matter what men do to destroy them [Jer 36:28, 32]. They don’t like what he said and they don’t like what he wrote and that’s what’s wrong with them!!
Conclusion: Before you criticize the King’s English in the King James Bible, the best thing to do is to read it and line up with what it says. Rather than change his words like the modern Bibles do, rather than cut out his words like Jehudi and the NIV did, why don’t you change yourself and conform to what you know God said in HIS words!! That’s what you should do.
