Do you ever feel powerless, like you are lacking supernatural power in some specific area of your life?  For the most part, you know that things are generally going well.  As far as you know, you are in the Lord’s will, you are in good fellowship with the Lord, you read and pray, and you sense the Lord’s leading and help in your life.  Things are good but something seems to be missing in a one particular area.  You don’t seem to have the supernatural power to stand up for Christ and to be bold, for instance, or to execute on a decision that you know the Lord is leading you to make, or to walk away from a certain sin.

Today, we are going to discuss the supernatural power of God in your life to see if we can find the solution to your dilemma.  We want to find the power of God for the area in your life where you need God’s power to get through this impasse.  There is supernatural power in:

The Holy Spirit – Mic 3:8; Lk 4:14; 2 Tim 1:7 – there is power in the Spirit of God – when we were saved, the Holy Spirit came in us and we have all of him that we are ever going to have – yet, as in the case with Jesus, though he was the Holy Spirit incarnate, the Bible says that he returned from the wilderness “in the power of the Spirit” – I believe there are times when the power of the Spirit of God is weakened in us because we are not “filled with the Spirit” – in those times, we need to spend a sufficient amount of time alone with God in order to be strengthened by “the power of the Spirit” like Jesus was – perhaps you need to cut out some distractions in your life and get alone with God – then you’ll be strengthened in the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit.

The Words of God – Heb 4:12 – on several occasions, we have discussed the benefits of reading and studying the words of God – frankly, one of the main reasons to saturate yourself with the words of God is that there is supernatural power in those words – they get down inside of you and discern the thoughts and intents of your heart – they straighten you up from the inside out like nothing else on earth – read them, believe them, follow them, memorize them, live by them – the words of God are the voice of God in your life – they will guide you and strengthen you every day of your life – perhaps your intake is too low.

The Grace of God – 2 Cor 12:7-10 – there are times when you are too weak to be strong – perhaps you have been trying to do, in your own strength, something the Lord wants you to do that can only be done in his strength – therefore, you must rely upon the supernatural power of his grace to do it – you must acknowledge your weakness for Christ’s sake so that you may be strengthened by his grace – if you are like Paul, you may even begin to glory in and take pleasure in your weakness “that the power of Christ might rest upon” you.

Fasting and Prayer – Matt 17:19-21 – prayer is a mighty powerful weapon that God has given us and we spend far too little time in communion with God in prayer – but there are times when even prayer is not sufficient for the supernatural power that is required under certain circumstances – at times we need to fast and pray – Esther fasted and prayed before approaching the king about Haman’s wicked decree – Daniel fasted and prayed through a spiritual battle awaiting the revelation of his vision – the church fasted and prayed before sending out Paul and Barnabas – the results of all of these occurrences of fasting and prayer were excellent – perhaps, instead of just praying you need the supernatural power of fasting and prayer for your specific need.

The Blood of Jesus – Heb 9:14; 1 Jn 1:7 – in your battle with sin, you need supernatural power – God has given us the blood of Jesus Christ to cleanse sin in our lives and to purge our consciences – dealing with sin is a constant battle and since it was the blood of Jesus that paid for your sins it will be the blood of Jesus that will purge your sins – you cannot fight sin on your own – it takes the supernatural power of the blood of Christ to deal with sin in your life.

Numbers – Lk 10:1; Ecc 4:9-12; Matt 18:19-20 – we have a saying, “there’s strength in numbers” – this is certainly true when it comes to the work of God – if you find that you are having difficulty working alone in the thing God has given you to do perhaps you need to get some help – Jesus sent the disciples out in pairs, Paul was sent out with Barnabas, Moses needed Aaron and Hur to help him hold up the rod of God until Joshua won the victory over the Amalekites – Jesus said, “where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” – there is supernatural power in numbers – perhaps all you need is some help – I guarantee that it is much easier for me to witness when I am with a partner.

The Gospel of Christ – Rom 1:16 – in order to be saved you need the power of God – you may have tried living a good life – you may have tried a religion or two – you may have tried hedonism to put the thought of ever being saved out of your mind – or who knows what you may have tried – but in the end, nothing has worked and you still have that empty, unsettled feeling inside – you need “the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth” – the gospel is the only supernatural power you need to be saved and to go to heaven when you die.

Conclusion: perhaps you have been neglecting one or more of these things in which there is supernatural power – get alone with God and be filled with the Spirit – spend more quality time in the Bible – realize that your weakness is an opportunity for God’s grace to strengthen you – perhaps you need to fast and pray – remember to plead the blood of Jesus – don’t try to work alone; you may need help – and if you have not received Jesus Christ according to his gospel then you need to get saved today.
