Does God Help Those Who Help Themselves?

Yes, But He Also Helps Those Who Can’t Help Themselves.

The story of the Good Samaritan [Luk.10:25-37], is a great example of how God helps those who can’t help themselves. Jesus also ends the passage with “Go, and do thou likewise”.  Let us look at what the Bible says about helping others.

Who are supposed to help?

• We are to do good to all men, helping others should be a part of your Christian walk
• Especially to the Household of faith – our fellow Christians, we should be looking for opportunities at church to be helping others.

• To them whom it is due
  • Once again, the household of faith
  • [1 Tim.5:3-16] our family or own house, helping others begins at home in your own house
  • [2 Thes.3:10-15] if you want to eat, you ought to work, some folks are not due. (I can’t begin to help you define ‘to whom it is due” on the local street intersection with men and women holding all sorts of signs. You need to be in good fellowship with God and be led by the Spirit of God in your helping others)

You can’t help others if you’re broke

• [1 Thes. 4:11-12] We are to work with our own hands for two reasons:

To have a honest testimony to non-Christians

To lack nothing

• [Eph.4:28] To prepare yourself to be able to give. You have no business giving to help others, when you are not providing for your own house. We are to work so that as God shows you a need, you are able to fill it. [Acts 11:29-30] They gave according to their ability.

You can help others with the experiences God gives you

• [Heb. 5:11-14] “by reason of use “means experience, you have experienced things that has given you knowledge and wisdom that you could be helping others with.
• [2 Cor.1:3-5] The sufferings and comfort experienced by you as you have survived hardship, are quite a blessing to others that are now going through the same things.
