He That Ruleth His Spirit Prov.16:32 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
According to Prov 16:32, he that ruleth his spirit [is better] than he that taketh a city. This shows how strong a man must be to rule his spirit. We are emotional beings and our emotions affect our spirits. In other words, for a man to rule his spirit he would have to rule his emotions [slow to anger]. Today a lot of people are ruled by their emotions; they don’t rule their emotions.
A person who can’t rule his or her spirit:
Loses his/her temper – Prov 16:32
Is controlled by fear – 1 Jn 4:18
Is saddened by loneliness – 1 Ki 19:4
Is dominated by depression – Prov 12:25
Is governed by infatuation – 2 Tim 3:4 [passion]
He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls, Prov 25:28 – so every little thing gets to him/her.
When a person rules his spirit:
He controls his temper – Prov 19:11
Is not afraid – 2 Tim 1:7
Is never consumed by loneliness – Heb 13:5
Walks with a merry heart – Prov 17:22
Is controlled by the love of God – 2 Tim 1:7
Conclusion: What to do if you cannot rule your spirit – acknowledge to the Lord [and your spouse] the area(s) where you are not ruling your spirit – resolve that you are going to do whatever it takes to start ruling your spirit – search the scriptures to find out what God says about how to rule your spirit – yield to the Holy Spirit’s presence in your life to rule your spirit – and pray daily for the Lord’s help because once you start ruling your spirit you will daily face trials that will test your resolve.
