Matt 1:18 says, Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise.  Today we’ll preach on the Jesus birth and discover his divine characteristics revealed in his birth.  In Jesus birth we see that he is:

The Jewish Messiah – “Christ” Matt 1:18 – Christ means anointed and for those familiar with the prophecies concerning his coming they knew he was the Messiah [Jn 4:25-26; 41-42] – but the nation didn’t accept him as Messiah – they are still waiting for their Messiah to come – thus, they will be deceived into accepting the Antichrist as their Messiah – the alignment of the nations against Israel today is right in line with the prophecies of the Bible – when Jesus returns Israel will finally have her peace – he alone is the hope of Israel – preach him.

The Son of God – “of the Holy Ghost” Matt 1:18, 20; Lk 1:35 – Jesus birth was miraculous – he was born of a virgin – thus, God was his Father – because he is the Son of God, he is God manifest in the flesh – thus, nothing is impossible with him – trust him.

The Son of David – “thou son of David” “conceived in her” Matt 1:20 – those who knew him knew that he was the promised Son of David – the Canaanite woman and blind Bartimaeus knew this about him – the Pharisees, on the other hand, were blind to this truth – the beauty of his humanity is that he is touched with the feeling of our infirmities – communicate with him.

The Savior – “Jesus” Matt 1:21 – for he shall save his people from their sins – he is the one who came to take away the sin of the world – he is the one who lived perfectly and died with all of our sins in his own body on the tree – no one else ever did this for you – receive him.

The True God – “Emmanuel” Matt 1:23 – 1 Jn 5:20 – Jesus birth was prophesied in Is 7:14 – he is God with us – he will return to this earth and be with us for ever – however, in the meantime, he is in us when we receive him and he will never leave us – therefore, fellowship with him.

The King of the Jews – “King” Matt 2:2 – he is the king of the Jews but Israel rejected her king when he was here the first time – the wise men knew he was the king and the thief on the cross knew he was the king – when he returns to this earth he will rule all nations with a rod of iron – he won’t concern himself with our constitution or the legal interpretation of our constitution – he is coming to rule as a dictator – therefore, worship him and fear him.

Conclusion: we see who Jesus is in Jesus birth – he is the true God, the Jewish Messiah, the King of the Jews and the Savior of the world – he is also God’s gift to the world Jn 3:16 – the question is, “what have you done with God’s gift of his Son?”
