Samuel told Israel that despite choosing a king, God would still give them favor if they would meet certain conditions.  We call these “conditions for favor with God.”  To have favor with God, you must be:

God Fearing – 1 Cor 10:1-12, Acts 5:1-11, Rom 3:18 and 1 Pet 2:17. Israel was man fearing.  Men do not fear God today and so they miss God’s favor.  Men fear circumstances, the fear the economy, they fear terrorism, they fear other men and so forth.  But few fear God today.

God Serving – 1 Sam 12:10, Ex 20:4-5, Jn 8:32-36.  Israel was self-serving.  And men today are self-serving because they are selfish and they love themselves.  There is more joy in serving God than there ever was in serving myself.  Don’t run from serving God. He is a better master than you are.

God Obeying – 2 Tim 3:2, Lk 2:51, Heb 5:8.  Israel disobeyed God.  And men disobey God.  They don’t even know what they are supposed to do according to God’s commands.  Read the Bible and find out what God wants you to do.  The obey him.  You will be surprised how much better it is to obey God.

God Loving – 2 Tim 3:2, 4, Rev 2:4, 1 Cor 13.  They were warned against rebelling against the commandment of God.  The greatest commandment is to love God.  When you love God, not just in word, but in deed, you find contentment and satisfaction that this world cannot give.

Conclusion: if you will meet these conditions, you will have favor with God,
