Judgment of Sins 2 Cor. 5:21 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

This lesson is on the judgment of sins.  There seems to be some confusion about what happens to us when we sin after we are saved.  This sermon will deal with the subject of sin at our salvation and following our salvation, all the way to the judgment seat of Christ.  The judgment of sins includes:

The judgment of sins at Calvary – 2 Cor 5:21 – when Jesus died on the cross, he became sin for us.  He took away the sin of the world, Jn 1:29.  Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life, Rom 5:18.  Therefore, anyone who will receive Jesus Christ, the free gift [Jn 3:16], will be justified.

The judgment of sins at salvation – Rev 1:5 – Jesus Christ washed us from our sins in his own blood when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ and received him.  We are washed, we are sanctified and we are justified by him, 1 Cor 6:9-11.  Justification basically says that you have been tried for your sins and found “not guilty.”  Rightly so, since Jesus Christ already died for them and paid for them [Rom 5:8].

The judgment of sins after salvation – 1 Cor 11:31 – sin after salvation is still sin.  You can’t be thrown into hell for your sin after salvation and you can’t die after salvation [I’m talking about the second death of Rev 21:8] because you are in Christ [Eph 5:30], you have been given eternal life [1 Jn 5:13], you have passed from death unto life [Jn 5:24] and you are seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus [Eph 2:6].  But you can suffer every temporal consequence for sin just like any lost man.  You can suffer temporal condemnation for walking after the flesh [Rom 8:1].  You can reap corruption [Gal 6:7-8].  You can get sick, grow weak and even die [1 Cor 11:28-30].  You can lose your testimony and your reputation [1 Tim 3:6-7, for instance].  Therefore, the Lord gives us the instruction to judge ourselves and to confess our sins [1 Jn 1:9; Prov 28:13].

The judgment of sins at the judgment seat of Christ – 2 Cor 5:10-11 – sins that we commit after we are saved can also have eternal consequences.  Again, you won’t wind up in hell, but you can suffer lost rewards and inheritance at the judgment seat of Christ.  Like Col 3:23-25 says, “he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.”  Notice the loss of inheritance in the kingdom of God due to sin as found in these verses: 1 Cor 6:9-10, Eph 5:5, Gal 5:19-21.

The judgment of sinners for eternity – Rev 21:8 – finally we should say that if you have not believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, you will spend eternity in the lake of fire for rejecting the only remedy that can keep you out of there [Jn 3:36].  You can only be justified by the one who paid for your sin.
