Thy Face Will I Seek Ps. 24:8 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

In Ps 27:8 David said, “When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek.”  This is a strange request and response because, Jn 1:18 and 1 Jn 4:12 say, “no man hath seen God at any time.”  So, how are we to seek God’s face?

His face has eyes, a mouth, ears, and a nose.  So, imagine standing in front of the face of God as you approach him.  Although Moses never saw his face, God said of Moses, “With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches,” [Num 12:8].  So, when you seek the face of God, notice his:

Eyes – in the great book recording the love between Solomon and his bride, which typifies the relationship between Christ and the Church, we read, “His eyes are the eyes of doves,” [SOS 5:12].  When John saw his eyes he said, “his eyes were as a flame of fire,” [Rev 1:14].  The thing about his eyes is that they see right through you.  Prov 15:3 the eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.  Heb 4:13 all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.  And when you imagine those eyes, they affect you.  Prov 20:8, A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.  Just take off your mask of hypocrisy and deal with him face to face.

Mouth – Job said, “I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food,” [Job 23:12].  When you open the Bible to read, listen for God speaking to you out of his words.  In 1 Sam 3:9, Samuel was instructed to reply to the Lord’s voice with, “Speak, Lord, for thy servant heareth.”  We should come to the Bible the same way so that the Lord can reveal himself to us through the word of the Lord [1 Sam 3:21].  Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God,” [Matt 4:4].  This book speaks.

Ears – in Ps 141:1 David said, “Lord, I cry unto thee: make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry into thee.”  In Ps 143:1 he said, “Hear my prayer, O Lord, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness.”  David knew that he had the ear of the Lord when he was speaking with him.  Remember those times when you have spoken to the Lord in prayer and you just know that he heard you.  The peace of God came over you, even though you didn’t know how or when God was going to answer.  All that mattered is that you knew he heard you.  That’s all that ever matters.

Nose – we are supposed to be a sweet savor of Christ unto God [2 Cor 2:15].  David said, “Let my prayer be set before thee as incense [Ps 141:2].  See also Rev 8:3-4.  We are to offer spiritual sacrifices to God [1 Pet 2:5] and with these, God should be well pleased [Heb 13:15-16]. Contrast what happened when Israel sacrificed to the Lord after turning so far away from him [Is 1:11-14, Is 65:2-5].  We don’t want to stink up the place with our presence.  We want to be a sweet savor to him, instead.

Conclusion: hopefully, it will be helpful to us to think about presenting ourselves before the face of God, by seeking his face.  Let’s keep his eyes, mouth, ears and nose in mind as we approach unto him.
