How To Purge Iniquity

We Purge Iniquity Through:

Salvation

Ps 79:9 – when you receive Jesus, God will purge your soul of all sins for eternity.  Our records are clean, forever.  See Heb 1:3.  And salvation can also purge some folks by an immediate “deliverance” from certain sins.  This doesn’t always happen; but some folks testify of being delivered from things like drugs and alcohol, for instance.  But the Lord wants us to grow from our initial salvation and purging into full spiritual maturity [2 Pet 1:3-8]. Otherwise you may forget that you were purged from your old sins [2 Pet 1:9] and go back to them or be unfruitful.

Mercy And Truth

Prov 16:6 – Solomon wrote, “By mercy and truth iniquity is purged.” You get mercy when you come to the Lord in truth, according to his words.  Jesus said, “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth,” [Jn 17:17].   But this verse also shows us that if you want mercy, you must be truthful with God when you come to him.  You must be absolutely honest with God about your sin [Prov 28:13].  Hypocrites don’t get mercy [Mat 23:23, 25, 27, 28, 29, 33].

The Blood Of Christ

Heb 9:14 – couple this with 1 Jn 1:7-9.  The blood of Jesus Christ is a cleansing agent to purge out that old sin that keeps coming back up in your conscience.  When old sins come up, they not only cause you regret, but they also present themselves as fresh temptations to sin again.  “Pleading the blood” applies the blood of Jesus to your sin and purges your conscience.

Mortifying The Deeds Of The Body

2 Chr 34:3 – Josiah purged Judah and Jerusalem of their idolatry.  He began to purge them in the twelfth year of his reign and he completed the task in the eighteenth year of his reign [2 Chr 34:8].  Sometimes it takes a while to get some of these sins out of your life.  But through the Spirit of God, you can mortify the deeds of the body [Rom 8:13].

God Will Purge Iniquity In Hell

Matt 3:12 – the Lord will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.  The Catholics have the idea of purgatory wrong.  If you spend one second in the fire, you will be there forever [Rev 14:10-11].  You can’t wait till you die for God to purge your sins.  You must purge your sins, now, by the blood of Jesus Christ through his finished work in salvation.
