Jesus told the Sadducees that they didn’t believe in the resurrection because they didn’t understand that the God of Abraham is the God of the living, not of the dead. Throughout the Bible, we find references to the God of Abraham.  And when we search these references we learn great things about our God.

The God of Abraham is:

The God of promises – Gen 26:24 – the God of Abraham makes oaths and covenants and he keeps them.  God made a promise to Abraham.  And he kept it in Isaac.  He also kept it in Jacob (Genesis 28:13).  When God makes a promise, he keeps it.  God promised when we got saved that he would keep us saved. “… him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”

The God of protection – Gen 31:40 – God protected Jacob from Laban.  God intervened to keep him from harming Jacob.  In Gen 31:51-53, Laban made a covenant with Jacob that they would not cross a boundary to harm each other. However, ever since the days of this covenant, Syria has been a continual enemy of Israel.  In all of Syria’s attempts to destroy Israel, God has intervened and protected them.  At the end of the tribulation, the worst assault against Jerusalem will take place.  And even then, God will intervene and save Israel.  The God of Abraham is our God.  And he will protect you in every circumstance of your life.

The God of power – Ex 3:1-8 – in Egypt, Moses was able to perform miracles that exceeded the ability of the magicians to duplicate.  When he brought forth lice from the dust of the earth, the magicians knew that this was the finger of God.  Our God is the most powerful God in the universe.  And he is able to deliver you from every situation in your life.  He has more power than you have need.  There is no god that compares to our God.

The God of preeminence – 1 Ki 18:36-39 – He is greater than all other gods.  At the big showdown between Baal and God Almighty, Baal was a total failure and God Almighty was the great victor.  People say that we all worship the same God, but they are wrong.  The God of Abraham is the preeminent God and salvation is of the Jews.  All other gods are inferior.  They are either represented by dead statues or they are physically dead in their own graves.  Even Allah is not like our God.  The God of Abraham has a Son and Allah has no son.  And it is through the Son of God that we have eternal life.

The God of provision – 1 Chr 29:13-19 – the God of Abraham is a giving God. John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”  Every need you have he can supply.  “My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”  God’s greatest provision is eternal life.  He is the God of the living.  And if you want to live forever, you must receive his Son, Jesus Christ, as your Savior.

Conclusion: if you have not received the provision of eternal life through Jesus Christ, today would be a great day to be saved.  And if you find yourself in great need, know that the God of Abraham has made the promises, offers the protection, and has the power to take care of whatever you need.
