Why Some Don’t Have Eternal Life 1 Jn. 5: 9-12 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
Eternal life is the life of Jesus Christ. He that hath the Son hath life [1 Jn 5:9-12]. Jesus is a gift [Jn 3:16; Eph 2:8-9]. Jesus came that we might have life more abundantly [Jn 10:10]. So, why doesn’t everybody have it.
Some don’t have eternal life because:
They don’t understand it – Acts 8:30-35. They need someone to show them [Rom 10:13-15]. And that’s what we, who already have received Jesus, must do [Acts 1:8]. Some don’t understand because vanity has darkened their understanding [Eph 4:17-19]. And some don’t understand because religion has led them to believe that they can obtain everlasting life through their own religious efforts [Mk 7:13].
They don’t believe it – Jn 3:18, 36. You must believe on the Lord Jesus Christ [Acts 16:30-31, Jn 1:12-13]. Some people just don’t believe these are the words of God and the words of life [Jn 6:63-67].
They don’t want it – Lk 18:18-30. The possessions of the rich man were more important to him than everlasting life. People know that there is a “catch” to the offer of salvation. Anyone can receive Jesus Christ and have life everlasting. But things are going to change [2 Cor 5:17]. We are new creatures; some like the old things and don’t want them to pass away. A problem for saved kids who grow up in church, who haven’t grown in their new life, is that they haven’t experienced the world. When they get a taste, if they decide that they like it, they won’t want to serve righteousness. They would rather serve sin. Rom 6:12-22. That is, until they have reaped what they have sown and are ashamed.
Conclusion: These are three of the main reasons that some don’t have eternal life. Which one of these is your reason? Let me tell you that eternal life is SO much better than anything this old temporal life has to offer. But you won’t know that until you have eternal life and start growing in it. That’s why it’s called faith. You must trust that what God said is true!
