Ps 75 3 The Earth Will Be Dissolved CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

Psalm 75 doctrinally deals with the second coming of Jesus Christ. Notice these Second Advent references in the Psalm: 

• Ps 75:1 – “thy name is near thy wondrous works declare “- the opening of the seals, the sounding of the trumpets and the pouring out of the vials certainly testify to these works.
• Ps 75:2 – “I shall receive the congregation” – Jesus comes to rule on the throne of David in Jerusalem [Lk 1:31-35]
• Ps 75:3 – “I bear up the pillars of it” (the earth) – cross reference this with 1 Sam 2:8 in Hannah’s prayer which has many Second Advent references.
• Ps 75:8 – the wicked drinking the dregs of the cup – this happens during the Tribulation [Jer 25:15-33].
• Ps 75:10 – the horns of the wicked cut off – these are the kings of the nations who are destroyed at the return of the Lord [Rev 13].

When reading Psalm 75, you must study verse 3 very carefully because it appears to be out of context.  It says, “The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved.”  That sounds like the dissolving of the earth and elements with fervent heat in 2 Pet 3:10-13, which occurs at the end of the millennium.

This apparent contextual problem is solved when you look up the definition of the word “dissolved.”  There’s no need for you to refer to a Hebrew or Greek lexicon.  You can solve the problem by just looking up the word in English.  “Dissolved” doesn’t just mean “melted.” 

When Ps 75:3 says that the inhabitants are dissolved it means that they are “dispersed” – see just some of the cross references in Ps 68:1, 14; 89:10; 92:9; Is 33:3.  Folks scatter when Jesus returns.

When Ps 75:3 says that the earth is dissolved it means that it is “broken up and detached” – see these references to the great earthquake that occurs at the second coming of Jesus Rev 6:12; 8:5; 11:19; 16:18.  Then look at these cross references [Is 13:13, 24:18-19] and notice that the foundations of the earth shake.   Look at Is 24:20 and Is 24:1, 4-6.  The earth is reeling to and fro like a drunkard, like it is detached from its orbit.

That’s why the Lord says “I bear up the pillars of it”.  He keeps it together despite the earthquake and orbital distortion.  Like Heb 1:3 says, he upholdeth all things by his word.  In Col 1:17 by him all things consist.  Otherwise, the earth would disintegrate by the time the Lord returns for his Second Advent.
