Redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb

In verse 9, the 24 elders are singing this new song.  However, in their song they praise the Lord for redeeming them out of every kindred, tongue, people and nation.  There are certainly more than 24 of these.   Therefore, the 24 elders are representative of the hundreds of millions of saints [v.11] that are praising the Lord with them.

They profess to have been redeemed by the Lamb’s blood.  Frankly, the blood of Jesus does many things for us:

  • The blood redeems – Revelation 5:9, Colossians 1:14
  • The blood purchases – Acts 20:28
  • The blood washes – Revelation 1:5
  • The blood justifies – Romans 5:9
  • The blood saves – Romans 5:9
  • The blood forgives – Ephesians 1:7
  • The blood draws nigh – Ephesians 2:13
  • The blood purges – Hebrews 9:14
  • The blood cleanses – 1 John 1:7

In verse 10 we are kings and priests with the Lord during his millennial reign – 1 Peter 2:5, 9 [notice that we are a royal priesthood (royal, as in royalty, i.e. kingly)] – Revelation 1:6 – we reign with the Lord on earth when he rules the world from the throne of David [Isaiah 9:6-7] – notice in Luke 19:11-27, the faithful servants of the Lord are given “authority” over cities – they get to rule – today, we must remember that we are not kings YET, but rather servants [Matthew 20:25-28]

In verse 11 John sees hundreds of millions of angels – by checking the cross references, we find that he actually saw church age saints that had been raptured to stand before the throne – watch how this goes – in Job 38:7, angels were called sons of God – some of these fell with the devil [Job 1:6, 2:1, Genesis 6:2, Revelation 12:4-7] – notice in Revelation 12:4, 7 and Revelation 1:20 that stars are representative of angels (interestingly movie stars live in Hollywood in Los Angeles, the city of the angels) – likewise, when we get saved, we become the sons of God [John 1:12] – we replace these fallen angels – Paul said that the Galatians even received his as an angel of the Lord [Galatiansl 4:14] – Jesus said that in heaven we are as the angels of God [Matthew 22:30] – Daniel 12:3 says that we are as the stars – amazingly, because God is infinite and eternal, he transported John out beyond where we are now so that John could see us praising the Lord up in heaven – what a sight!!

In verse 12, the Lamb is the only one worthy to receive these 7 things.

In verse 13, every creature everywhere praised the Lord – Romans 8:22, Psalms 150:6, Psalms 148:1-13 – what a day that will be when we see our Savior Jesus Christ literally praised by everything that he created all at the same time – I can’t wait!!
