3 Jn 2 – John wished that Gaius would prosper and be in health.  1 Tim 4:8 – while exercise is a little profitable, “godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and off that which is to come.”  Ps 42:11 – the Psalmist said, “I shall yet praise him who is the health of my countenance.”  There are definite physical and mental health benefits that are derived through spiritual means.

Prov 3:7-8 – to fear the Lord and depart from evil results in health to thy navel [the navel stands for the whole body, the core], and marrow to thy bones [Job 21:24].  Prov 9:11 – by the fear Lord, your days are multiplied and your years are increased.  Prov 4:10 – receive my sayings, and the years of thy life shall be many [Prov 10:27].  Generally speaking, you live a longer and better life when you fear God and depart from evil.

Prov 4:20-22 – the words of God should not depart from thine eyes, you should keep them in your heart.  Therefore, read them daily and sufficiently.  Let them sink down into your heart.  They provide life and health to your flesh.  Sin takes a toll on your body and on your mind [Gal 6:8].  Dr. Jim Binney’s experience in counseling led him to conclude that psychological problems are the result of sin, Satan or sickness.  Therefore, he could provide no psychological remedy.  He found, instead, Biblical remedies.

Prov 15:30 – a good report maketh the bones fat.  So, let Phil 4:8 be the template for your thoughts.  Stay away from bad reports [bad news].  If what you’re thinking about doesn’t fit Phil 4:8 then quit thinking about it and cut off all input that contributes to these thoughts.

Prov 12:4 – she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.  A bad woman works on her husband from the inside out.  Be careful whom you marry.  Prov 14:30 envy is the rottenness of the bones.  It will eat you inside out.  The Pharisees envied Jesus, the Jews in the wilderness Moses, and Joseph’s brothers envied him.  Prov 17:22 a broken spirit drieth the bones.  Some of your bones have marrow.  It contains stem cells.  The stem cells can develop into red blood cells to carry oxygen, white blood to fight infection, and platelets to provide clotting.  These are all extremely important to your health.

Prov 12:18 – the tongue of the wise is health.  Preaching and wise counsel are good for your health.  Nathan’s counsel to David after his affair with Bathsheba was hard but beneficial.  He didn’t speak with a cutting tongue like Shimei.  Prov 13:17 – a faithful ambassador is health.  Your pastors are faithful ambassadors.  We go to the Lord to receive messages from him to preach to you.  And what he gives us is good for our physical and mental health as well as for our spiritual health.  Prov 16:24 – pleasant words are health to the bones.

Prov 14:30 – a sound heart is the life of flesh.  Compare the heart that is hardened, deceitful, desperately wicked, and unbelieving to the heart that loves God, loves his words, loves his people and sets its affections on things above].  The latter is certainly more sound than the former.  Prov 17:22 – a merry heart doeth good like a medicine.  When you are ill, remember to treat yourself with the words of God while you’re in your doctor’s care.

Conclusion: when we take care of our health, we can’t concentrate all of our attention on health products and remedies.  We must remember the benefits of godliness through the spiritual things God has given that are associated with his words and obeying what they say.
