There is a Snare, Prov 29:6

Prov 29:6 says, “In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare.”  You want to be very certain to stay away from transgression because of the snares.  In transgression:

Evil men snare you – Prov 1:10-18 – men will entice you to join them in sin.  But the trouble is that what they are enticing you to do will ensnare you.  In the case of Prov 1, the evil men think they are laying wait for their prey, when in fact they are laying wait for their own destruction.  Prov 7:21-27 shows you that evil women can ensnare you just as well.  The way to protect yourself and to stay out of their snares is to not consent [Prov 1:10] and to not go in their way [Prov 4:14-16].

Sin snares you – Prov 5:22 – a man who transgresses against God’s command will be holden with the cords of his sins.  Jas 1:14-15 shows you that sin begins with lust that entices you and draws you away.  Then when lust conceives, it brings forth sin, and sin brings forth death.  People who “try” drugs often become drug addicts.  That’s the snare.  Sex, alcohol, tobacco and immoderate appetite all have snares that put you in bondage.  The only way out is through the truth [Jn 8:32] and through the Lord Jesus Christ [Jn 8:36].

The devil snares you – 2 Tim 2:24-26 – when a person strays from the truth and gets into sin, the devil can take him captive at his will.  The devil will usually wait to draw the snare until he can cause the greatest amount of collateral damage.  When you are snared by the devil, you must acknowledge the truth and repent, if God peradventure will give you repentance to the acknowledging of the truth.  If the Lord gives you repentance, then you may recover yourself out of the snare of the devil.

Conclusion: why even risk it.  If you aren’t currently ensnared then don’t transgress.  You will be ensnared and then you will have a tough time getting out of the snare, if you get out at all.  If you are ensnared, then cut off your friendships with evil men and women, believe and live by the truth of God’s words, turn to Jesus and repent.
