Ps 37:23 says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.” Job said, “My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined,” [Job 23:11]. How does the Lord order our steps?
They are ordered in salvation – You’re not a good man until you are a child of God. Jer 10:23 it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. So, get saved by faith in Christ. Rom 4:12 who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham. When you get saved, then you can walk by faith and not by sight [2 Cor 5:7].
They are ordered by God’s word – Ps 119:133 Order my steps in thy word. Ps 37:31 The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide. When you get the words of God in front of you, they are a lamp unto your feet and a light to your path [Ps 119:105]. When you get them in you they guide you through the entire day. Read and get these words in your heart.
They are ordered by Christ – 1 Pet 2:21 that ye should follow his steps. Prov 16:9 a man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps. The Lord will gently lead you by his Holy Spirit [Rom 8:14]. You must follow his lead. When you do he will keep you from slipping. Ps 17:5 Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not. Ps 18:36 thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.
They are ordered by righteousness – Ps 85:13 Righteousness shall go before him; and he shall set us in the way of his steps. What you are is more important than what you do. So, be right and walk in righteousness. Bob Jones, Sr. said, “Do right.” And he said, “The right road leads out at the right place.”
They are ordered with good men – 2 Cor 12:18 Titus… walked we not in the same steps? Walk with good men. You have to know there are many that will try to knock you off this way. Ps 57:6 the sons of men [v.4] have prepared a net for my steps. Ps 89:51 the Lord’s enemies have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed. Prov 5:5 the steps of a strange woman take hold on hell. The best man in your life to follow is a father following God. Prov 4:10-12 When thou goest thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
Conclusion: the Lord wants to order your steps. For him to be able to order your steps, you must be born again. Then you must get in his words and follow what he tells you to do in his words. When you pray and patiently follow the lead of the Holy Spirit, Christ will order and direct your steps. You must also walk in righteousness. Always be right and do the right thing. Refuse to follow the sons of men, the Lord’s enemies and strange women. Instead, always walk with good men. That’s how the Lord will order your steps.
