Why God Requires Blood

Why God Requires Blood

Luke 11:49-50

In the passage before us Jesus is telling the generation that he is addressing that God will require the blood form Abel unto Zacharias of them. God has always required blood not only for sins but for when man sheds man’s blood. This is what we will look at in this lesson.

In the case of man shedding man’s blood

In Genesis 9:6 we see that God requires mans blood to be shed by the one that shed it. The reason for this is that man was made in the image of God. The image of God is Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 4:4 ; Hebrews 1:3).

According to Numbers 35:33 blood pollutes the land. Note also that when Cain kills Abel that his blood cries out to God from the ground (Genesis 4:10). Image what God hears today!!

Since God requires man’s blood for shedding mans blood then he will require some blood for the shedding of his son’s blood as well. In Matthew 27:24-25 we see the Jews ask for the blood of Jesus Christ to be on them and their children and it has been every since. The Jews have been one of the most persecuted races on the face of the earth every since.

This is also why there is so much blood shed at the second coming of Jesus Christ. In Revelation 14:20 at the battle of Armageddon blood is said to flow as deep as the horses bridle for 1600 furlongs (176 miles). Remember that God always requires blood.

In the case of Salvation

From the very beginning God has required blood to cover for man’s sin (Genesis 3:21). On the Day of Atonement in Leviticus 16 the High Priest could only enter into the Holy of Holies with the blood of the Lamb.

Therefore when Jesus Christ was resurrected he entered into the Holy Place in Heaven and put his blood on the mercy seat and that is why we can be saved and eternally secure today (Hebrews 9:11-15). This is why we have verses like the following;

Romans 5:9 ; Colossians 1:14 ; 1 Peter 1:18-19 ; 1 John 1:7 ; Revelation 1:5

This brings us right back to where we started. In Genesis 4:1-5 we see the age old problem. Cain is sacrificing with no blood, which is why his offering was not accepted. He was trying to get blood from a turnip so to speak.

God has always required blood. Therefore you will either go to heaven by the blood of Jesus Christ or you will not go. Jesus paid the price for you so don’t be like Cain.
