Too Many Words

Too Many Words

Ecc.5:7

Not too long ago parents told their children consistently “ sit down and shut up”. It was common to hear “children are to be seen and not heard”. Now we have several generations of people who will not shut up. Too many words. The Bible has plenty to say about this multitude of words.

[Ecc.5:3] “ a fool’s voice is known by a multitude of words” [Ecc.10:3] a multitude of words speaks to who you are. [Ecc.10:12] A fool’s big mouth doesn’t get better, and he is hard to deal with [Prov.18:7] A fool’s mouth is his destruction [Prov.14:7] Stay away from him

[Prov.10:19] “In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise” The more words that come out of your mouth, the more opportunity to expose your sin. [Matt.12:34-37] “of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh” [Mk.7:21-23] Really bad list of what is revealed about us with our lips.[Prov.17:27-28]  “It’s better to remain silent and be thought a fool than open one’s mouth and remove all doubt” - Mark Twain (attributed) [Ecc.7:21-22] Also, there is a huge interest in knowing every word that everyone is saying, Social Media.

[Job.11:2] “Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?” Job at this point became pretty chatty. When arguing with others, the more words you supply, the more they are used against you. Law enforcement use Interrogation tactics that involve many words in questions and the hope that you will speak many words in answers. This is why you have the right to remain silent. [Lk.23:9] The Lord did. [Matt.6:7] thought by much speaking to be heard [James 1:19] swift to hear, slow to speak [1Thes.4:11] study to be quiet
