Contrast the Devil and The Lord, Acts 26:18

There is a great contrast between the devil and the Lord.  They are diametrically opposed.

Notice these qualities of the Devil

Darkness – Eph 6:12 he is among the rulers of the darkness of this world; though he has transformed himself into an angel of light to counterfeit the Lord [2 Cor 11:14].  When Paul was chosen by the Lord to preach, he turned “them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God,” [Acts 26:16-18].  The devil’s followers walk in darkness [Prov 4:19].  When we get saved, we are called “out of darkness into his marvelous light,” [1 Pet 2:9].

Death – According to Heb 2:14, the devil has the power of death.  In Rom 5:12, we see that “death passed upon all men.”  Everyone who is a descendent of Adam dies [1 Cor 15:22].  Our soul, spirit and body are all affected by this death.  Even our soul will go through the second death [Rev 21:8] if we are not saved by Jesus Christ.  Those who are not saved are dead in trespasses and sins [Eph 2:1].

Deception – Rev 12:9 the devil deceiveth the whole world.  He is a liar [Jn 8:44].  What he did to Eve in Gen 3:4-5, he does to all.

Destruction – Jn 10:10 the devil is the thief that came to destroy.  Those who refuse the gospel of Jesus Christ and those who don’t know God will be destroyed, as well [2 Thes 1:7-9].

Notice these qualities of the Lord

Light – In Jn 1:4-9, we see that Jesus is the true light “which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.”  Without Jesus, none of us would even be alive.  In Jn 8:12, Jesus is the light of the world.  That’s why we come out of darkness into his marvelous light when we get saved [1 Pet 2:9].  After you get saved, you need to be in his words in order for the light of Jesus to guide you, instruct you, and help you understand and know him [Ps 119:130].  The light of Jesus through his words “shineth more and more unto the perfect day,” [Prov 4:18].

Life – Jn 14:6 Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”  He gives us life and gives it to us more abundantly [Jn 10:10].  His life is eternal life [Rom 6:23].  Thus, when we receive him we pass “from death unto life,” [Jn 5:24].

Liberty – Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty [2 Cor 3:12].  The liberty we have in Christ makes us free [Jn 8:32].  Therefore, we can walk in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free [Gal 5:1].  We are no longer in bondage to the devil.

Love – In Jn 3:16, God’s greatest demonstration of his love toward us was the gift of his Son to the world.  When you receive Jesus Christ as you Savior, you receive the love of God and thereby you can love him [1 Jn 4:19].  We can fulfill the great commandment in the law through Jesus Christ [Matt 22:36-38].  And we can love the brethren through him [Jn 13:34-35].

Conclusion: if you haven’t gotten saved, you are still a child of the devil, walking in death, deceived by the devil and awaiting your destruction.  Get saved now so that you can have the light of life, which is eternal life, and walk in the liberty and in the love of the Lord.
