Ps 116:15 says, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.”  The Psalmist didn’t say death is precious.  Death is horrible.  Death came from Adam’s disobedience [Rom 5:12].  God remedied our problem with death through the death of his own Son [Heb 2:14-15].  In Is 53:10-11, “it pleased the Lord to bruise him.”  God was satisfied.  Yet, death is not precious. It is an enemy that must be and will be destroyed [1 Cor 15:25-26].

So when we read “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.”  The emphasis should be on his saints.  We feel the terrible, crushing loss when one of our loved ones dies.  But we must see death from God’s perspective.  We must remember that we are HIS saints. 

We are God’s children – Jn 1:12 – when we receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, we are given the power to become sons of God.  We are his saints.

We’re now in God’s body – 1 Cor 6:19-20 – when you get saved, you are bought with a price.  Your body becomes the temple of the Holy Ghost.  In 1 Cor 6:15a, our bodies become the members of Christ.

We’re breathing God’s breath – Gen 2:7 – when God made Adam he breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.  In Acts 17:25, “he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things.” And in Ps 104:29, when God takes away our breath, we die.

We’re living with God’s spirit – Ps 104:30; Ecc 12:7 – when we die, the spirit returns to God who gave it.  In Jas 2:26, we see that the body without the spirit is dead.

We’re on God’s appointed time – God’s saints have an appointed time.  Jesus’ time on earth was figured to the year, the day, and the hour.  In Jn 7:6, he said my time is not yet come.  In Jn 8:20, “no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.”  In Matt 26:18, when he sent his disciples to make ready the passover, he said, “My time is at hand.”  He died at the moment the passover lamb was slain.  Paul said, “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand,” [2 Tim 4:6].  

We’re going to God’s house – Jn 14:1-3 – Jesus said, “In my Father’s house are many mansions… I go to prepare a place for you.” 

We’ll be given God’s glorified body – Phil 3:20-21; 1 Jn 3:2 – He’ll change our vile body and fashion it like unto his glorious body; we shall be like him.  Until we get our glorified bodies, we’re just sleeping in Jesus till then [1 Thes 4:13-18].  At death you sleep and at the rapture you rise.  I doubt we’ll even be conscious of the passing of time.

We’ll live God’s eternal life – 1 Jn 5:10-13 – we have his eternal life now.  However, in our glorified bodies we will live forever with the Lord.

Conclusion: my friends, from God’s perspective, the death of his saints is indeed precious.
