Lesson #3 The Work of the Holy Ghost (Part 2)

In this lesson we are going to focus on the work of the Holy Ghost in the life of a saved person. There are many things that the Holy Ghost does as a part of our salvation, and we will mention these things, but the focus of this lesson will be on what the Holy Ghost does for us in connection with Jesus Christ.

The Holy Ghost in connection with Salvation

The moment we are saved the Holy Ghost does a lot of things for the saved person. He spiritually circumcises us, which is where the body is separated from the soul that is within us, according to Colossians 2:9-13. In connection to this he also seals us according to Ephesians 1:13 ; 4:30. These two of the main reasons that we have eternal security. We are also baptized into the body of Christ by the Holy Ghost (1 Corinthians 12:12-13) as well as being born again by the Spirit of God (John 3:3-7). Our body also becomes the temple of the Holy Ghost (1 Corinthians 6:19) as he lives inside of us after salvation.

What the Holy Ghost does for us in connection with Jesus Christ

In John 14-16 Jesus told the disciples that when he had gone back to the father that he would send the Holy Ghost to dwell within them. Therefore, he through the Holy Ghost would be living inside of them. As a result of this there are some things that the Holy Ghost does in connection with Jesus Christ and we will look at these below.

1)  He is our comforter (John 14:16-21)

• Jesus had brought great comfort to the disciples by his presence with them now the Holy Ghost was going to take his place.
• The Holy Ghost is a great comfort to us by assuring us of our salvation (Galatians 4:6 ; Romans 8:16-17), and giving us the peace of God which passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

2)  He is our teacher (John 14:26)

• As a teacher he reveals the things about Jesus Christ to us (John 16:14) and brings to remembrance what Jesus has said (John 14:26).
• As a teacher he guides us into all truth because he does not speak of himself but of the Holy Ghost (John 16:13)

3)  Shows us the love of Christ (Ephesians 3:16-21)

• Through the Holy Ghost living inside of us and teaching us about Jesus Christ we can learn the Love of God and of Christ (Romans 5:5).

4)  Helps us keep Jesus’ Commandments (1 Peter 1:22 ; John 15:12)

• The Holy Ghost helps us to obey God’s word and one of Jesus’ commandments was that we love one another. The more we know about the love of Christ the more we can love one another.

What is the spiritual application for us from this?

If we truly seek to have a great relationship with Jesus Christ as we should then we are going to have to have a great relationship with the Holy Ghost as he is our teacher and revealer of truth about the things of Jesus Christ.
