Pastor John Robinson – How To Find The Will of God, Prov 2:1-5

Pastor John Robinson preached from Prov 2:!-5 on how to find the will of God.  This is more of a pattern than it is a process.

Starts with a desire – Prov 2:1 – what do you want?  We should pray for our children and grandchildren that God will put a desire in their heart to find and do his will.  If you have no desire for the will of god, you’ll never find it.  That’s because people do what they want to do.  Do you want to just do good; or do you want to do what’s perfect, Rom 12:1-2?

Proceeds with a decision – Prov 2:2 – “so that.”  You can have a desire.  But if you don’t decide to pursue it, nothing happens.  Eisenhower said, “The best thing you can do is the right thing.  The second best thing you can do is the wrong thing.  The worst thing you can do is nothing.”  Decide now to stop saying, “No,” to church things.  Decide now to start saying, “Yes,” to God’s things.

Involves some desperation – Prov 2:3 – God may have to put you in a desperate situation; but he doesn’t have to.  You might rather cry out, “I must know what God would have me to do.  I cannot miss it!”

Requires diligence – Prov 2:4 – you search for the will of God like you are searching for his treasure.  It’s like having gold fever.  Keep looking till you find it.  We can’t put God on our time schedule.  He wants you to find his will.

Arrives at the delivery – Prov 2:5 – “then.”  You find the knowledge of God and you find his will.  You can truly say, “I’m doing what God wants me to do.”  It’s settled.  I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing.

Conclusion: increase your desire to know God’s will, make a decision that you will find it and do it, get desperate about finding his will, and work diligently till you find it.  You’ll get there.
