This sermon tonight is entitled Move On.  

God Is On The Move

Our text says ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them, 2 Cor 6:16.  Notice that God walks in us.  God is on the move.  

The Spirit led Jesus Christ into the wilderness after his baptism, Matt 4:1.  The angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go… to the Ethiopian eunuch, Acts 8:26-27.  After the eunuch was baptized the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip and he was found at Azotus, Acts 8:39-49.  As sons of God we are led by the Holy Spirit, Rom 8:14.  Jesus said to his disciples Follow me, Matt 4:19.  Mic 6:8 says what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? 

We’re On The Move

We’re on the go; we’re moving.  Did you notice the words in these passages: led, go, caught away, follow, and walk?  The Christian life is not a life of sitting still, or just sitting around.  Occasionally, we must be still and know that he is God, Ps 46:10.  However, most of the time we’re on the go.  Unfortunately, some Christians never board the train.  They get saved and then never move on with God.  

From the very beginning of the Bible we see movement.  The Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters, Gen 1:2.  God said to Abram, Get thee out of thy country.  We sing a song, “This world is not my home, I’m just a passing through; my treasures are laid up, somewhere beyond the blue.” 

Imagine That You’re Traveling On a Train with The Lord

Picture this in your mind.  You’re traveling through here on a train, with the Lord riding with you in your private compartment.  You’re sitting in your seat with the Holy Spirit next to you and Jesus and the Father sitting across from you.  You can have continual, unbroken fellowship with all three members of the Godhead while you’re traveling through this life.  That’s true.  You can have this kind of fellowship with them.

Along the way, you make stops so you and the Lord can disembark to take care of his business.  You get off when he gets off and you get back on when he gets back on, because you’re walking with him.  You might witness to someone, or comfort someone, or teach someone, or help someone, and so forth.  Then you return to the train, embark, and keep on moving.

You Can See Out the Window

From your seat next to the window, you can also see what’s outside the window while you’re traveling.  When you see something that you want to look at more closely, you can slow the train down or even stop it.  The Lord lets you determine whether you want to stop or keep on going. 

Let’s say that you see something you lust after.  You slow the train way down so you can closely examine the object.  Suddenly, your thoughts, your eyes, and your attention are all drawn away from your traveling companions to what’s outside the window.  It’s as if you have drifted outside without them.  The lust of the eyes will do this to you.  Movies will do this to you.  Fantasies will do this to you.  Imaginations will do this.  Distractions will do this to you.

Don’t Slow the Train Down

What do you do?  Don’t slow that train down.  Keep going.  Move on.  And keep your attention on your traveling companions in your compartment, and not on the sights outside your window.  Because the train keeps moving, that temptation will quickly pass by.  The scenery will change.  If you won’t slow the train down to look, you can just keep on going right past the temptation.  

You know how train tracks have switches.  Some people have switched their tracks, and their trains are stalled on a spur.  They have stopped the train and they are stuck right there, going nowhere.  Some people have switched their tracks and they just go round and round.  They keep passing the same scenery and keep having the same lusts and temptations.  As they go in circles, they keep revisiting the same events of their lives.  They never move on.  They’re just  living life in a vicious circle.  Switch the tracks and move on.  There are lots of great things to still see and do.

Keep Going. Move On.

Once you switch the tracks and get going again, those old temptations are in the past.  Those old bad sections of the journey get further and further behind you.  You move further and further away from them.  They’re like the scapegoat in Lev 16:21-22.  That goat goes to an uninhabited land in the wilderness with all those iniquities on him.  They are far, far away from you.

Do you understand?  The way to keep from getting stuck in lust or past misery is to keep the train moving.  Stay in fellowship with your traveling companions and quit looking out the window all the time.  You keep breaking off fellowship with the Lord every time you are distracted by what your see outside your train.  

Move On With The Lord

We are meant to move.  Move on with the Lord.  Only slow down when there is something that he wants you to see or something that he wants you to do along the journey.
