Obey God’s Words
In Hag 1:12-13 “the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet”. Therefore, the Lord replied through Haggai, “I am with you, saith the Lord”. When the people obeyed God’s words, the Lord was with them. We understand from this passage how important it is that we obey God’s words.
His Words Framed the Worlds
In the Bible we find some profound truths about the power of God’s words. Heb 11:3 says, “the worlds were framed by the word of God”. God made everything you see of things which do not appear. God spoke them into existence. He framed them all by his words.
His Words Uphold Everything
And in Heb 1:2-3 we read, “upholding all things by the word of his power”. In other words, everything that Jesus framed by God’s word he upholds by the word of his power. Jesus, the Word of God, made all these things and upholds all these things by the word of God.
His Words Speak in the Firmament
According to Ps 19:1-4, the things God made in the heavens and in the firmament speak with his words to the end of the world. In Rom 10:17-18, Paul quoted Ps 19:4 in v.18 in the context of faith that comes from hearing the word of God in v.17.
God brought everything into existence by his words and upholds it all by his words and these words are permeating the universe. And God permanently recorded these words for you in writing in your Bible.
Therefore in Is 24:5, the inhabitants of the world defile the earth, when they don’t obey God’s words. Disobedience to the very words of God that are keeping the earth and heaven together is what causes things to go wrong in the earth and in the heaven.
When Men Don’t Obey God’s Words, They Defile the Earth
Read the context of Is 24:5 in Is 24:1-6, 19-20. The wheels come off when the inhabitants of the earth transgress the laws, change the ordinance, and break the everlasting covenant, v.5.
The earth is empty, waste, and upside down, v.1, mourns, fadeth away, and languisheth, v.4, is defiled, v.5, is devoured, desolate, and burned, v.6, is broken down, dissolved, and moved exceedingly, v.19, and reels to and fro, is removed, and falls and rises not again, v.20. In v.20 the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it. Moreover, in Revelation, the sun is darkened, the moon turns to blood, and the stars fall from heaven. There are earthquakes, tempests, beasts killing men, wars, and natural disasters. The earth just comes apart at the seams.
Do you understand? The earth is being destroyed by disobedience. Carbon emissions, pollution, climate change, and so forth are small problems compared to the results of disobedience. We are dealing with the symptoms, not the problem.
Now if you want to know how to keep your life in order…
Get in line with God’s words. In Ps 119:133 the Psalmist wrote, “order my steps in thy word”. In Ps 119:105 God’s word is a lamp to your feet, and a light to your path. Reading and listening to God’s words is like Is 30:21. It’s as if with your ears your hear God’s word saying this is the way, walk ye in it.
Saul’s Life Came Apart When He Disobeyed God
Saul’s life came completely apart because he disobeyed God’s words, 1 Sam 15:24. He was a good man, 1 Sam 9:2. He was God’s choice to reign over Israel, 1 Sam 9:16-17. The Spirit of the Lord was upon him, 1 Sam 10:10. And the Lord blessed him in battle, 1 Sam 11. But when he disobeyed God’s words, his life began to unravel. The Spirit of God left him, he envied his son, Jonathan, and David, and he repeatedly tried to kill David, who was God’s choice as Saul’s successor. He died a failure.
Jer 11:2-8 says, “cursed be the man that obeyeth not the words of this covenant”, v.3. But in the passage we also read, “Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you… That I may perform the oath which I have sworn unto your fathers”, v.4-5.
Obey God’s Words And Your Life Will Be In Order
Do you see? In your life the word of God keeps you in line with God and gives you supernatural light that is running throughout the universe. If you are right in line with the Bible, you’ll be right in line with God, regardless whether the rest of the world is coming apart. That’s why you must obey God’s words. You can’t fix the world’s problems, but you can fix your own when you obey God’s words.
Are you obeying? Or, are you disobeying? Be honest and get in line with God’s words.
