Dead in Trespasses and Sins
Eph.2:1
Dead in trespasses and sins is the state of man without Jesus Christ. The Ephesians have Jesus Christ. How does a person get in this dead state? What is the definition of quickened?
What is the definition of quickened? Your King James Bible will define it for you. [Num.16:30] Korah, Dathan, and Abiram are the context. The word quick is used in the passage, and if you don’t know it’s meaning just keep reading. [Num.16:33] we find out that quick means alive.
Paul says that they were dead. This is clearly not a physical death! Paul told the Romans [Rom.5:12] that by one man (Adam) sin entered in [Gen.2:16-17, 3:6]. Death by sin [Rom.6:23], the wages (payday) of sin. Sin has now passed upon all men [Rom.3:10] [Rom.3:23].
Adam was born in God’s image [Gen.1:26-27] but because of sin he died. Just like Adam [Gen.5:3] we are born with his sin nature, and just like him, as soon as we sin, we die spiritually. We are (spiritually) dead in our trespasses and sins. Simply stated, because of sin we have NO connection to God [Jn.4:23-24]. We live in a world where most people are walking around dead in their trespasses and sins.
There is only one way [Jn.14:6] to be made alive again. [Jn.3:3-7] Ye must be born again because you are dead in trespasses and sins. Jesus spoke to his disciples [Lk.9:59-60] saying Let the dead bury the dead.
Believe by faith what Jesus has done for you. [Eph.2:8-9] [Rom.10:9-13] Your spiritual death has caused a separation between you a sinner and Jesus Christ the Saviour. By faith plus nothing you are quickened, [Rom.6:2-4] to walk in the newness of Life. This life you now have is eternal! [1Jn.1:2] [1Jn.2:25] [1Jn.5:11-13] This life you now have is everlasting! [Jn.3:16] [Jn.3:36] [Jn.6:47]
Thank the Lord Jesus Christ for the gift of eternal life! Being a gift, we cannot work for it, we must receive it by faith. We all have friends and family that are dead in trespasses and sins. Understanding this death and the solution of being born again, may the Lord help each one of us to bring others to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
