Ps 86:15 But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth. Today we are going to discuss the Lord’s compassion.
God is full of compassion. He sent his Son to die for us. And he is not willing that any should perish.
God loves us with a love that we cannot comprehend. When we are saved he want us to live in a right relationship with him. Nevertheless, we are never sinless. Yet, he is compassionate.
The Lord Demonstrates His Compassion:
By His Chastisement
Lam 3:17-25, 31-36. In Lam 3:22 his compassions fail not. In Lam 3:32 though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies. In Ps 78:32-39, he was full of compassion toward Israel in their repeated disobedience and rebellion and yet he destroyed them not. He likewise demonstrates his compassion toward us when he chastens us, Heb 12:6.
By His Care
Matt 9:36 says, “But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd”. They were in this condition by their own doing. They had turned their back on God so many times that now they were under foreign domination and they were sick with the diseases of Egypt. Yet, God had compassion on them. And he has compassion on us when we suffer the consequences of our own disobedience.
By His Protection
According to Ps 86:14-17, when violent men seek after your soul, don’t revile them. They won’t have compassion on you and you aren’t going to turn them. The Jews tried to court favor with the Romans in Jesus’ day and Titus destroyed them in 70 AD. They should have turned to the Lord for his compassion. That’s what we need to do in these perilous times. Bible believers spend too much time railing on those in authority. No, turn to Jesus for his compassion, instead. He will protect you.
The Lord’s Compassion Continues Until There Is No Remedy
2 Chr 36:15, in the days of Zedekiah, God tried to turn the Jews back to him till there was no remedy, 2 Chr 36:16. When the Chaldeans came they had no compassion on them 2 Chr 36:17. If you are running from God to day, he is using this message to turn you back to him. If you harden your heart and stiffen your neck, you eventually come to the place where there is no remedy. And at that time, there is no compassion.
The Lord’s Compassion Remains By His Faithfulness
In 2 Ki 13:23 because of the Lord’s covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, he will have mercy on Israel and save them when Jesus returns. In Rom 9:16 The Lord told Moses, “I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion”.
Because of the Lord’s covenant of salvation with us, he has compassion on us. He said that he would never leave us or forsake us. Nor will he leave our wayward children. The Lord can put up with more than we can when it comes to his compassion toward us and our wayward children. If you are out of sorts with God today, now is the time to turn back to him and seek his compassion.
