As Christians, we are called unto the fellowship of God’s Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, 1 Cor 1:9.  We are, therefore, to have fellowship with Jesus, 1 Jn 1:3.  But what does fellowship with Jesus entail?

Fellowship with him, 1 Cor 1:9.  We enjoy fellowship with Jesus when we spend time in his words, time in prayer, and time walking with him throughout the day.  We should have a conscious awareness of his presence and help in every day, throughout the day.

Fellowship with the brethren, Acts 2:42.  The second thing on the list of items occupying the time of the new believers is fellowship.  In 1 Jn 1:3 fellowship with the Father and the Son incorporates “fellowship with us”.  And in fellowship with each other, there should be no divisions, 1 Cor 1:10.  We are to be likeminded, Phil 2:1-4.  

Jesus said to Saul on the road to Damascus, “why persecutest thou me”?   In there words, as Saul was persecuting men and women in Christ, he was persecuting the Lord.  When discord creeps into your fellowship with the brethren, that’s an indication that there is strain in your personal fellowship with the Lord.

Fellowship with the brethren includes ministering to the saints, 2 Cor 8:4, and supporting men laboring in the gospel, Phil 1:5.

Not having fellowship with unrighteousness, 2 Cor 6:14-18.  Our fellowship with Jesus is affected by our fellowship with people who are contrary to him.  You can’t have fellowship with both.  The Lord said to separate from them and “I will receive you”.  Likewise, we are not to have fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, Eph 5:11 (6-14).  In 1 Jn 1:6, if we say we have fellowship with him and walk in darkness we lie.  In 1 Jn 1:7,  we are to walk in the light as he is in the light.

Conclusion: God wants our fellowship with Jesus to be sweet.  We are called unto fellowship with Jesus.  These three simple instructions should help you enjoy your fellowship with Jesus to the fullest.
