On Father’s Day, why not celebrate our heavenly Father and thank him for his goodness.  These four things we preach about him are for his children.  If you haven’t yet received Jesus Christ as your Savior, you are not his child and he is not your Father.  However, if you call upon Jesus, he’ll save you.  God will become your Father and you his child, Jn 1:12.  And he will give you these wonderful things.

Our heavenly Father gives us:

Provision – Phil 4:19.  According to Rom 8:32, he gives us freely all things.  He has given us his words.  With them we have wisdom, instruction, knowledge, understanding, and discretion.  We live by his words.  

He has given us his Holy Spirit.  Through the Spirit of God we have the fruit of the Spirit.  He gives us comfort, as well. And we have him as our teacher.

He has given us Jesus Christ.  Through him we have a Savior who keeps us saved. And he gives us strength, power, grace, and mercy.  And with all of these we also get food and raiment and the finances to pay our bills.

Protection – Rom 8:31, 35-39. Nothing and no one is able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.  Our heavenly Father gives us protection against the devil, 1 Pet 5:6-11.  We just need to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God.

He also protects from all the things that afflict us in the world.  We are not spared from these things that afflict people in this cursed earth.  But these things don’t destroy us.  Through them, we are strengthened and established and perfected. 

Our heavenly Father also protects us from ourselves.  Indeed, we are our own worst enemies.

Punishment – Heb 12:5-11.  A father who loves his children chastens them.  Prov 13:24, “he that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes”.  Our heavenly Father chastens us so that we may partake of his holiness and yield the peaceable fruit of his righteousness.

Promises – 2 Cor 7:1.  2 Pet 1:3-4.  Our heavenly Father promised “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee”.  He promised to keep us.  He said, “him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out”, Jn 6:37.  He is coming back to earth to get us.  Jesus said, “I will come again and receive you unto myself”, Jn 14:3.  

Conclusion: we have such a great Father in the Lord God.  Happy Father’s Day, Father.
