Keep The Commandments, Prov 3:1

In Prov 3:1 Solomon said to his son, Keep my commandments.  We don’t keep the commandments to be saved in the New Testament.  When we are saved by the grace of God, we receive the righteousness of Jesus Christ as a gift.  This is not something that we can earn.  Nevertheless, we are to live by all the words of God.  Therefore, it is good for us to obey the words of God.

Why?  When we keep the commandments and obey the words of God, we find:

Favor – Prov 3:4

God brings us into favor with him and through favor with him, we have favor with those with whom he wants us to have favor.

Direction, Prov 3:6

We don’t just need direction for our life, in general, we need direction throughout everyday.  By trusting the Lord and obeying his words, he guides us in every decision we make.

Health, Prov 3:8

People often overlook the health benefits of keeping the commandments., v.2.

Blessing, Prov 3:10

When you handle your finances according to the commandments of God, God blesses your finances.  You may never be rich, but you will always have more than you need.

Happiness, Prov 3:13, 18

Through finding wisdom, getting understanding, and retaining the wisdom that comes from God’s words, you find true happiness.  This is lasting happiness that exceeds and endures beyond any pleasure the world has to offer.

Pleasantness, Prov 3:17

When we keep the commandments, God is pleased and we find pleasantness.  Obedience to the words of God is mutually pleasant.

Peace, Prov 3:17

No matter the circumstances, keeping the commandments is the path to peace.

Safety, Prov 3:23

Bad things may be happening all around you, but when you keep sound wisdom and discretion, the Lord keeps you safe, Ps 3:4-7.

Confidence, Prov 3:26

The Lord shall be thy confidence.

Conclusion: these are just some of the good benefits of keeping the commandments of God.
