Soul Winning Lesson #3

What Is The Gospel Lesson #3 Bro. Welder CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO

1 Cor 15:1-4: The gospel is simply the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.

His Death

His death was the “consequence” of sin – Rom 5:12; Jas 1:14-15; 1 Pet 2:24

His death was the “payment” for sin – Heb 10:12; 1 Pet3:18; Heb 9:26-28

His death was the “substitution” for sinners – Rom 5:6-10; 2 Cor 5:21 w/ Gal 3:13; 1 Tim 1:15

Jesus was a tri-part being like we are and so when he died he went three different places

  • His spirit went to God – Lk 23:46, Ecc 12:7
  • His body went to the grave – Is 53:9; Matt 27:57-58, 63-64
  • His soul went to hell – Acts 2:27, 31; Matt 12:40; Eph 4:9-10 [Lk16:19-31]

His Burial

His burial was the fulfillment of the law – Deut 21:23

His burial was the fulfillment of prophecy – Gen 3:19; Is 53:9; Matt 27:63-64

When he was buried his body did not decompose – Acts 2:27; 31

His Resurrection

His resurrection proved his victory over death – 1 Cor 15:55-57; Heb 2:14-15

His resurrection made the way for others to rise, as well – 1 Cor 15:20-22; Ezek 37:1-14, 24

His resurrection makes our preaching and faith worthwhile – 1 Cor 15:13-14

Salvation in Jesus Christ is complete because of these three things.  Thus, a man cannot work his way to heaven; Jesus has already done all the work.  A man needs to simply trust what the Lord has already done for him.  Salvation is a free gift given to the man whose faith is in Jesus Christ, to the man who receives the gift of Jesus Christ – Eph 2:8-9; Jn 3:16; Jn 1:12

How do we communicate the gospel to the lost? Acts 1:8

You communicate the gospel “scripturally” – 2 Tim 4:2; 1 Thes 2:13 – that is you show him the scriptures

  • He is a sinner, short of the glory of God – Rom 3:23
  • Facing a judgment against a righteous Savior – Heb 9:27; Acts 17:31
  • On his way to a lake of fire for, at least, lying – Rev 21:8
  • But he has a substitute – 2 Cor 5:21 [who took his place in life, death and hell]
  • Who will give him eternal life and assurance when he receives Jesus – Jn 1:12; 1 Jn 5:13

You communicate the gospel “illustratively” – Jn 10:1-16 – that is you use pictures or stories to illustrate

You communicate the gospel “personally” – Acts 26:2-23 – that is you give him your personal testimony

You communicate the gospel “reasonably” – Is 1:18; Acts 24:25 – that is you help him reason through his doubts and questions
